GENERAL ACRONYMS


DCV = Dual Concave Lens
A lens that has two inwardly curved sides (opposite of a magnifying lens)

DCX = Dual Convex Lens
The same as a standard magnifying glass lens, it has two outwardly curved sides. It is the most useful lens for projector projects

DIY = Do It Yourself
How else would you do it? You want a job done right...

IMHO = In my Humble Opinion

There's actually a very long history of this acronym dating back to 332 B.C..... j/k. :)

LCD = Liquid Crystal Display
Laptop screens are LCD panels. Also called TFT's, they can be active matrix or passive matrix. Active matrix is much better as it does not have the problem of "ghosting"

MBPU = Modified Backlight Projection Unit
OR
MPVP = Modified Backlight Video Projector
A method of illuminating an LCD panel by retrofitting a new light source into the backlight optics. This method has an advantage because it uses the polarizing light recyclers inside most LCD backlights, and is much more effecient with the light. Also, this helps out with the annoying problem of the extending the ribbon cable between boards to move them out of the way.

MH = Metal Halide
A very nice type of bulb that requires a ballast to power (much like a flourescent). Very nice whiteness and excellent intensity

OHP = Overhead Projector
Commonly used in classrooms and presentation rooms, used for projecting transparencies onto a screen.

PCV = Planer Concave
Like the DVC, but have one flat side

PCX = Planar Convex
Like the DCX, but with one flat side
