Prune, we are working out ways to get commercial sponsorship without allowing commercialism in the forum end of things or allowing ANY commercial considerations to affect forum content and the free exchange of ideas.

In the meantime, for a couple weeks out of every year, we'll plague you with requests for donations.

Like this one:
we have now worked out a way that members can contribute via credit card rather than PayPal alone. For details, email webmaster@diyaudio.com .

Sent mine in today... so far less than a 1/2% of members have helped out.

Push the button, make a donation, every little bit helps.

the model should be "public radio" in the U.S. -- you don't see too many public radio stations selling out or shutting down -- we have quarterly begathons at WNYC !

the real metric is the % of active participants who donate (a lot of members are dormant).

some of my other on-line subscriptions:
Wall St Journal -- $49 per annum
Financial Times -- $200 per annum
but I use these for the biz.
and the wife gets a couple of scientific journals -- some are free, some you have to pay for.

A quick check tells me that a little over 60% of our membership is active in some capacity.

I would bet that I was the first nonmoderator/insider to donate. (long before there was a begathon began) I hate to put more work on you guys, but I would like to have a disclosure of expenses, donations, operating cost and budget. I think a lot of sceptics and malcontents would be more comfortable donating if there was a thread (for members only if you prefer) updated once a month or so saying who has collected money how much money and for what expenses. Just keep it all out in the open and above board, unless this has already become someones cash cow.

No cash cow- in fact, we're still well short of basic operating expense money. As we roll out the Audio Vendors' forum, we hope to make up the shortfall. In any event, we're putting together some basic numbers for everyone's amusement. I'm gratified to see that there really aren't any malcontents or skeptics, at least none out in the open. But it's reasonable to expect us to say, this is what a bare-bones cost is, this is what we have so far. And we will.

To repeat a point made many times over, the guys doing the work here are all doing it on a purely volunteer basis.
