How to get trunk bass into cabin area?

a friend has an 06'ish jetta with subs in the well sealed and insulated trunk. he is complaing about low spl and SQ and wants me to build some new boxes. i suggested first cutting some large holes in the rear deck and placing nice transparent grills over the holes to allow bass to freely enter the cab. any thoughts/suggestions? it seems like he is pressuring the dickens out of the trunk but it is muffled in the cab.

Cars with well sealed trunks are only good for SQ builds, if he truly wants to cut the rear deck of his car, go for it but note that he will be distorting his car, if he is serious about his bass he should invest in a cheap hatchback/suv type car, these are way easier to get high spl levels with half the effort of a trunk build but it is possible, once the rear deck is cut make sure the ports are firing through or face towards the cut area

Since you would be willing to cut into rear deck, maybe look into a set of IB subs mounted to rear deck using trunk as box.

Subs will be firing directly into cabin and wouldn't require as much power either, being IB subs.

Just a thought.
