My thump solution - never turn off the phono stage.
Option 2 - turn it on first with the preamp, let it warm up ~30 seconds, then turn on amp(s). Power down in reverse of that sequence.

It's cool that the Pearl 3 has you revisiting old favorite turntables & such
Now... because of the Pearl I ordered a new MC cartridge 😍
And a record washing machine...
Many thanks @wayne ... really.. 🙄

Hey, either I may have a cure for my "wanna dual mono PS, but I love this custom pair of chassis!" problem, or maybe not....
See if modushop will custom make me another power supply chassis box! It would either need two power cords, or a connector between chassis, shouldn't be an issue.
Now sit back a minute and figure out if a good idea, or just a flash of early ( not that early) onset dementia.

OB speakers? Looks interesting.🤔Welcome to the club, Plott!
It’s been a couple weeks since I fired up my Pearl 3. Decided to settle in for a relaxing evening of records.![]()
Hi,
I would like to power my Pearl and other Passdiy preamp with SLA battery. 4 x 12V batteries to make +/- 24V. Should I use cap after these like 2 x 22000µF and then feed the on board 15V regulators ?

It's already started, well sort of. X's XSD isn't technically OB, but tweeter and mid are open. Not as wide as typical OB as bass is altogether different. But, bass is open to back, like OB in different fashion.Take care, Russell, OB is addictive...
Just a short question... During many hours of listening I noticed a somewhat sharp or overemphasized upper mid/ treble range, and I think it was the reason why I changed the gain. However, I had to set the input capacitance to 320 pF (100+220) to tame this range to some extent. The cartridge is a Nagaoka MP-500; J2 of course shorted. Is it normal?
PS: I tried two different preamps (Iron Pumpkin, Rega), same result.

From what I can tell, Nagaoka cartridges, which are Moving Iron, are best loaded with as little capacitance as possible.
Try input capacitance all switched off, whatever the tonearm cable’s capacitance is, will likely be enough.

Jim, I tried it of course, but then the highs were sharp, elevated.
Now I replaced R22 with 68 ohms instead of 220 ohms for reduced gain (putting 100 ohms into the place of C16 is not necessary a good idea if one wants to change between MM and MC by simply removing the jumper - it gives only 95 ohms instead of 2.2k).
With this feedback the sound changes somewhat, sadly, I miss the gorgeus openness.
(I also made a trial with my old Lehmann Black Cube, okay, it sounds boring, but no elevated/sharp highs.)

Hmm... I've left the Pearl on for about 3-4 hours now without playing any music, and the sound is noticeably improving. Could it be that it just needs burn-in time (I think I read that somewhere)? I've listened to it for about 5 hours so far, so it's now racked up about 9 hours in total. Maybe I'll increase the gain a bit once the sound settles in so nicely...
I’m not sure adjusting the Pearl 3 gain below the standard is a great idea, consider returning it to the stock value the next time you open it up.
