Hey Guys
I am trying to come up with a 1 inch
Compression Driver on a budget here
Trying to stay around $100 per driver.
Is there anything that you would say is on the Warmer Smoother side of the spectrum ?
Trying to stay away from ear fatigue here.
I will be using it with
The B&C me45 horn.
Thanks

Give us something more to work with. What kind of frequency range are you looking for? What impedances and power handling are required? Are you doing active or passive xover?
I plan on going passive,
8 ohms I would like to cross at
1.1k or 1.2k range
I will be playing at very low levels.

Well conventional wisdom has me thinking de250 would be an obvious choice but I thought I would get feedback from the crowd.

In my limited experience with compression drivers, once they were equalized I didn't find a significant difference in sound between the Selenium D202Ti, B&C DE250, or the extremely short-lived Dayton CD1780S (with either diaphragm). But I was using them on an Eminence Beta-10CX, so they all required significant and different EQ to sound correct. If you want to keep your crossover simple, you might prefer the B&C simply because it's flatter and more extended overall on a more typical horn (according the spec sheet anyway).
I think you can test both diaphragms with this CD.

PS SBAudience has 3 levels of quality, Bianco, Rosso, Nero, etc.

HF10AK is the only one for me. But three times your budget.
That's the one from Dayton I was referring to. No idea why they gave it multiple different part numbers/names, but it was discontinued very shortly after introduction. They said there were quality issues, but didn't specify what those were.I think you can test both diaphragms with this CD.

No DSP? I would avoid metal diaphrahms, as some have a piercing resonance at ~10 kHz.Is there anything that you would say is on the Warmer Smoother side of the spectrum ?

B&C DE360 is very nicely behaved. But it does not enjoy a low XO.

JBL 2414H-C, it's a mylar dome compared to the other 2 below.
JBL 2407,2408H-1, 2409 but again they prefer to be used higher up.

Hi there,
if you want to understand better how it could work look at this

https://celestion-horn.netlify.app/results
i put in the data of the B&C ME45
https://www.thomann.co.uk/bc_me45_1_alu_horn.htm
and combined it with the Celestion CDX1-1747
with the mouth dimension 30 cm X 12 cm there is no horn load under about 1500 Hz
hope it helps, Stefano

Either of these.SB Audience ROSSO-44CD-PK
Beyma Cd171/fe pt
The whole line of PT/PK Beymas were introduced last year, so there is limited experience. Also was added some this year, but not of interest for your use.
The DE250 has been changes to over the years, the older generations were better.
Prv idk. Have never had hands on theyre comp. Drivers.
I wonder if I go with the SB Audience Rosso driver 44cd-pk
I should also get the SB Audience Horn H250 to use instead of the
B&C me45 horns?

Conversations like these beg the question: Isn't there a realistic way to hear a variety of horns and drivers? Maybe too far old school for modern times but it's just hard to like the idea that you have to buy it to try it and then try to recoup the cost when you find it's not up to your standard.

Why bother with the membrane breakup of a compression driver then? Pretty much the only advantage those have over a dome tweeter in a waveguide is sensitivity and lower frequency extension.
Well I had a few Drivers in mind
But cannot seem to decide between these, any thoughts?
B&C de250
Prv 290py
SB Audience ROSSO-44CD-PK
Beyma Cd171/fe pt
I have the PRV D290Py-B and measured it on a few horns and a PWT @ D290 Tests and the driver sounds good.
It does not go as low as the spec would suggest, but it would suit your XO @ 1.2Khz. If you get the "B" (bolt) version it includes bolts and a threaded adapter.
