Hello all, i have a Marantz 8b project for sale if any one is interested.
I lucked into this unit a couple years ago & never got it to work.
The unit is missing the guts of one output transformer but the other is there. I did resistance checks on power tranny and all seems fine. choke is also good as well. It will come with covers.
I’ll post some pics shortly.
Thanks, Mark

The oh so venerable and polite 8B! What can you say? I genuflect in front of mine when I power it up and call it Sir. It has such a stately British tea and scones look about it. I bought mine used, not working, with a fried power transformer (xfmr). A previous owner added stupid amounts of capacitance to the B+ supply, thinking more C is better, without bound, and that did the deed on the transformer. I baked the xfmr in the oven at about 400 degrees F and that melted the potting material so that I could remove the xfmr. Made a mounting bracket for a custom toroidal replacement xfmr and installed that on the mounting base of the box that held the original xfmr. I saved the top piece of the box and decided to leave the toroid open so that it would cool better, since I did not want to pot it using the old potting material which I saved. The amp works like a charm, and it puts out about 3 watts per channel more power due to increased stiffness of the toroid's voltage. Time for more tea and scones. I decreased the added capacitance to a sane level, kept the two grey 'lytic cans on top of the amp intact and disconnected, just for their looks. It's so polite.
