I could swear I read somewhere that there is a direct replacement IC for the venerable 555 timer that has 10 times better temperature stability. Was I dreaming, or is there such a device?
If there is, Google should be able to find it.
It did, 1st page: https://www.cissoid.com/high-temper...ulsar-cht/cht-555-high-temperature-555-timer/
But be careful, the tempco of the timing R and C is generally much larger than that of the chip so that chip doesn't help you.

I was trying to think of all the versions. A case of checking data sheets I suspect. There is a Maxim one AFAIK. Might be worth a look.
TLC555, TLC7555, LMC555 and maybe ICM7555... are better than dinosaur NE555 in that aspect.
That having said, the NE555 probably is the only IC available as furniture:

Either way, you'll still want low temp co R and C, with 1% tolerances or better.
Yeah, only slightly to moderately better depending on the exact type but better is better (not 10 times but still). Just the fact that smaller caps can be used helps. For very precise operation one could look at other solutions.
In my education we had to study NE555 and even had a textbook just about this IC. I think it was a milestone in electronics.
