first of all thanks in advance iim building portable 6x9 box and the chamber is 15L 16D 12H its a bit bigger then on cubit foot. Im using Kicker 6x9 that are 140max 70 rms, my amp is 2x150 rms. Is there an easy way to pick a port hole size, my guess was 6 cubic Any help or links would be great. Im building the box with light weight foam core that's laminated with oak Vanier on both sides to make it strong, Im sure the light weight construction may have an effect on the sound. let me know what you think

thanks

You need to find the 6X9s Thiel Small [TS ] specifications to calculate or tune the box, from those specifications you can also calculate the port diameter and length. The size of the enclosure will be determined by these calculations.
Building the box as stout as you can stand usually means the box will be somewhat heavy.
Without these TS parameters, your just guessing.......and it wont sound good.

T-S parameters will probably just tell you that you need an unfeasibly large box. Car speakers (other than subs) are designed with stiff suspensions so they'll survive in large leaky enclosures like trunks and doors. You might as well just build a sealed box using the redneck TLAR design principle: That Looks About Right.

Thanks for the reply, Im sorta stuck with the size and laminated foam core both sides with veneer. Although im new to building 6x9 boxes I know im on the small side. I guessed that I should port 6 cubic inches, but are you saying at my size closed would be better.

Also would you happen to know a link where t/s and calculations is explained

I just calculated the volume of the camber 1.6666249999999998, I also wanted to mention my design has two walls at the back the inner wall could ether touch and seal with side wall or be moved back any where from .25" to 4" to provide the port. My best guess was about .5" giving 6 cubic at 12" high.

The box chamber is 15l 16d 12h I might be able to increase depth to 17" and I probally should.
