I have tried to replace 74HC04 with 74HCT14 in my X-DAC. But my X-DAC could not recognise signal from CDT.
Is 74HC04 compatible with 74HCT14 chip? Any way to modify?

Look here to find the differences.

Hi Patrick

I'm not into digital, but it might be something with that TTL vs. CMOS thing. Supply voltage?

Re: 74HCU04
The HCU04 part is unbuffered -- it's essentially a pair of MOSFETs. It's an inverter, but it's more like a unity-gain analog inverter -- if the inputs are not square waves, the outputs won't be square waves.
It's commonly used with a crystal in oscillator circuits.
The 74HC14, on the other hand, is a Schmitt trigger inverter. This device WILL square up unsquare inputs.
In other words, these devices are both inverters, but you cannot substitute one for the other in applications designed to use each chip's "feature."

Compatible 74HC04 is 74AC04
74HC04 delay 8ns state logical V IL- 30% Vcc , V IH - 70% Vcc, Vcc +2.- 6V
74AC04 delay 4ns state logikal V IL- 30% Vcc , V IH - 70% Vcc, Vcc +2 - 6V
74HCT14 compatible 74ACT14
74HCT14 delay 9ns VIL-0,8V, V IH-2V, Vcc 4,5- 5,5V.
74ACT14 delay 6ns VIL-0,8V, VIH -2V, Vcc 4,5 -5,5V.
Arrangements are compatible.
Logical the same levels.
I exchanged juz this arrangement.
Effect is superb.

My DAC is MF X-DAC. I don't know what the use of the 74HCU04 in it.
Which one is a better replacement of 74HCU04 -- 74AC04 or 74VHC04?

Logic Families
Hi Arne,
Yes tried them all HC, AC and VHC logic. To me VHC logic sounds the best.
But you can not replace a 74HC04 by a 74HC14, of course.
For SPDIF outputbuffering I am using the 74VHC04.
In a Pierce type crystal oscillator you have to use the 74HCU04 (unbuffered version). Could be replaced by a 74VHCU04 but I prefer a real clock like the KWAK-CLOCK.
😎
