Adding an FX loop to an acoustic amp

My Ibanez TA35 acoustic amp is proving great for my electric guitar (like better than a valve amp for my needs) probably because having a tweeter incorporated, it's got bags of treble and I love that I can hear the high treble in my Lexicon reverb.

Problem is that the mic input then has no access to the Lexicon, and has to go through the quite shitty inbuilt spring reverb. So, I'd like to add an effects loop.

The amp section has quite conveniently got separate preamp and power amp boards, with a simple two-wire connection between them. Is this where I should situate the effects loop? If so it would be AFTER the volume control, which seems not ideal to me, but then what do I know...

An alternative would be to use the four wires that go to and from the (truly horrible) spring reverb, which says 2.2 Ohms in and 2.0 Ohms out. Then there'd be an effects volume control, right? Would this work? Any danger trying it out?

Many thanks for your help.

Great thanks.

If I split the input to the volume control, however, don't I then have the issue that if there's nothing in the loop, the amp won't work, without a link between the send and return? Is that normal? How do they get around this on commercial effects loops? Is there a switch that activates when the plugs go into the send and return? Any useful diagrams or advice on that?
