I've got a chance to pick up a DAC board with HDAM output stage, pulled from a Marantz CD7 that has a broken disc mechanism. It is a dual TDA1541-based DAC.
I wonder if it is possible to make use of it by adding just a USB-I2S module like Amanero or XMOS? Pulled from the manual, it looks like to have an I2S input (or PCM?). What would be an easiest way to make it sing again? It is a big shame to let this legend forgotten.

From a quick look at the service manual, its not using I2S to go between boards, rather some format where there are two data lines (right, left) plus two clocks (bit clock, word clock).
TDA1541A can accept I2S but you'd need to fiddle with the format selection pin (pin27 to +5V) I would guess.
