Hey guys,
I'm not sure this is the perfect place to post, but it's the best I could find for now. Computer geeks don't know jack about building speakers.
My friend bought an Altec Lansing 641 4.1 speaker system for his computer.
This setup is actually almost like a cheap home theater setup rather than regular computer speakers. It even uses those red and black wires that you manually stick into the back of the satellites.
Problem is I blew one of his satellite speakers out by spilling soup on the sub(which is also the amp) which apparently shorted the speaker output or something. The sub/amp still works, because we hooked up his rear surround speakers in to take the place of the blown front stereo speakers.
I was wondering if it was possible for me to simply replace the drivers for his front speakers. I have the specs from that spec sheet link above. The only problem I see is that they are Altec Lansing brand, and I can't get that. I'm afraid that if I replace one or both of his front stereo speaker drivers, they won't match his other speakers.
Can i just match specs? If I can, where should I buy these drivers?
Here are the specs again, and a review where you can see what's inside.
Regards,
Lee

I have the same set of speakers with the opposite problem - a blown amp, but the speakers are fine. If you don't come up with a better solution, I could sell you a pair of the satellites for cheap (shipping + a few bucks for my trouble). Let me know if that interests you at all.
