Given all that Father Pass has done for us this annoys me greatly.

A lot of FW-cloning takes place in Thailand.
I have been offered amps when in search for chassis for the "long skinny" PCBs....before I knew the special heatsinks was a "FW-trademark".
Now we know they are humming.....it seems.....at least the seller is honest about this....

If you read the ad it claims new price $7700CAN. You can get an authentic Pass Labs product for that price.

Pass Labs Clone. No. At least it's not a clone of the 40th Anniversary VFET. I wonder what they think was cloned. There is the DIY VFET, but there may be another commercial product either from Pass Labs for First Watt I may not know about.
Note, I think the origin of the amp is from a retailer selling completed amps, not DIY projects. The current owner is again probably just uninformed vs. malicious, but it's still a bit annoying. If I am correct about its origin, this would potentially illegal to import or sell (or even own) in the US. I am not sure about Canada.
I also wonder what patent may be or was pending for the circuit / board?
That retail price however seems misleading at best and malicious at worst.
Re: the asking price - other sellers of their Thai 'clones' asked far less. If I were a member of the Canuck Audio Mart, I'd consider reporting the seller, but I don't know exactly the provenance of the goods being sold. It's just speculation based on others I've seen on the market.

At least my official DIYAudio Sony VFET that Nelson so graciously gifted to the community is dead silent. My favorite amp so far, and I would never let it go. I'm in the middle of building a F4 and have high hopes for that amp as well.

There weren't any commercial FW or PL products featuring the SONY VFETs.
I'm a member so here's what I reported:
"This amp is a fake. It is listed as a Pass Labs product, however it has nothing to do with Pass Labs. It is the copy of a design and stolen from FIRST WATT. The genuine article was sold in very limited numbers through the store at diyaudio.com. This ad is misleading and should either be removed or edited to delete any reference to FIRST WATT, Pass Labs, Nelson Pass or DIY Audio."
It'll be interesting to see if they'll do anything to rein this guy in.
Out of curiosity since I was logged in, I searched US Audio Mart to see what might be there. There is actually a genuine diyaudio VFET build in a ModuShop chassis available for $600. What were the odds of that? It's located in Redwood City for pickup or seller will ship.
Although RWC is my old stompin' grounds, I don't know the seller. 😀
