Anyone has the drawing of the DAYTON BR-1 cabinets?

Hello,
I am interested in using the BR-1 cabinets for a personal project but to do this I would need a detailed drawing of the interior spaces and the exact position of the reflex in order to organize all the internal components. Where can I find it since it is not in the manual?
Best regards
Guglielmo

Looking at the first page in the kit manual, it looks like the port is directly behind the tweeter, which is a pretty normal location; there's also an accompanying video which might have give you a better view of the cabinet:

The manual gives you the centre to centre distance between the drivers. The XO is mounted on the bottom of the cabinet and from my memory of the video, I don't think there's internal bracing, but you should confirm this with an email or call to Parts Express, they should be happy to help.

Good to get the reply from PE: I'm assuming you're buying the finished BR-1 cabinets and not making your own?

The DC160 is also used in Paul Carmody's "Classix II" speaker, for which there are detailed cabinet plans on his website.

The cabinet works fine for the DC160 and they use the Vifa BC25 and of course, a different crossover.

From the first post, it sounds like you're going to be using a different driver(s) to those in the BR1 kit, is that right? If so, are you able to design the crossover?

Just be aware that the BR-1 tweeter cutout is for the DC28F-8. Its flange diameter is 110 mm which is larger than the standard 104 mm. I made a trim ring to fill the gap when I used a standard sized tweeter. I also used a woofer slightly larger than the DC160-8 (165 mm flange diameter) so I had to enlarge the woofer's flange rebate.

Pending Dennis' reply to you, I think you could use the Classix II cabinet, with the BR-1 port (i.e. 1.5"x 6". The Classix II port is 1.5"x 4").

The external dimensions are so similar I can't see that making any difference: BR-1 is 36h x22w x28h cm, Classix II is 38x 21.5 x29cm. 0.5cm in baffle width shouldn't really make any difference to the sound, I think, at least, with my hearing. Just make sure the tweeter centre distance is the same from the top of the cabinet as in the BR-1.

Once you factor in that the CII cabinet uses slightly thicker material (3/4" vs 5/8"), internal volume is almost the same.

However, the tweeters in the BR-1 are offset from centre, and that does make a real difference. You should be able to get reasonably close by making a scale drawing from the manual photos and the dimensions given.

Sorry to mix metrics and imperial measurements.

If you can't get in touch with Dennis, may I suggest you post a question on Parts Express Tech Talk, along the lines of 'has anyone built the BR-1 kit or used the cabinets for another project? If so, could you kindly let me know the cabinet measurements as Parts Express does not have a detailed diagram' and I need to build an exact replica for my next project'.

Perfect! Now I need only the mesurements!
thanks
Guglielmo
Hi Guglielmo,
I had the opportunity to build and test the BR1 kit for a friend. It's hard to beat for the money and ease of build. It also sounds nice, not the most detailed speaker, but easy to listen to. However if you are going to all of the trouble to build your own cabinets you will do much better with other designs of similar foot print. Denise Murphy is a great place to start.
