I've been looking at Class D amps and came across this new Lepai amp. I looked it up on YouTube and found a vid where the guy put it on his Amp Dyno and it showed about half of stated power but still around 100wpc which is decent. Anyone try it out yet???

Looks interesting from the specs.
I watched the YouTube video and I am convinced it is a TDA7498E chip. Lepai already has an LP7498E amplifier. With Bluetooth included it becomes LP1601S.
The 2x100W is in 4 Ohm only and not with the PSU delivered with the amplifier. The technical specs state 4A/36V as the maximum at the power input. We need around 7A (and 36V) to get to 2x100W. According to the video it is possible at least for a short test.
The standard power supply is only 32V/3A, thus 96W. Hence, enough for 2x44W out. Not really what the buyers will expect.
The official specs are of the type arrived at by sales long after the engineers have left. For the price, the real performance is not bad. It remains a TDA7498E amplifier (with Bluetooth) in a compact casing where long-term cooling may be a problem and handling of the real supply power may be difficult.

Nice amp and nice power test as BigDWiz gets 2x75W <1%THD out of the 32v 3A = 96W power supply with sine waves as with dynamic tests confirming my idea that we can get away with a smaller power supply then the total output power of the amp.
In this case 63% or about 2/3.
But where does that power come from? Are the peaks filled in with power from the not so big power cap (@10:50 no values to be seen) or is the power-supply able to deliver 57% more power before the amp resets because of a voltage drop?

Take a look at a sine wave and add up the surface it includes under and over the zero line, This will never be more than the surface a DC voltage covers from top (like 32 volt) to the zero line. So this is no amp that generates power out of nothing. Sorry.
Hello first post ,
I have been playing with some class D amps lately primarily I went looking for a cheap Bluetooth amp I could use in my garage (so I could hear when I got a match in legend league of clash of clans prior to the new system that has no clouds) I bought a Lepy LP-168plus2X 45W 1x 68W It has really surprised me in that it sounds pretty dang good , might be better if I could figure out how I am supposed to use the Sub out with a single coil sub. I have since found some warehouse deals on Pyle weather resistant 6x100 amps and speakers made for a boat that I adapted to my large yard and it sounds like a theater over my 1/4 acre.
I was able to buy 3 of the pyle amps and marine speakers for all 18 channels for less than $300.00 by watching scratch and dent warehouse deals . and had to fork over another 30 for a pair of Sound pressure meters to insure I was just at the threshold of the noise ordnance and my neighbors nerves. (yes I am purposely annoying him and have refused to lower the volume for code enforcement and the police twice, as the ordnance says 65db in the middle of the street.😀 and Im at like 55 in his back yard. Long story and off topic but short version He is a snowbird of 17 years who recently moved in full time and proceeded to make trails and invite other atv users in the virgin woods behind our houses, those woods a sacred to me as is my privacy, sooooo he opened Pandora's box.
But back to the subject, these amps are limited by the power supply, when the 7 amp 12 v supply reaches its limit 2 of the channels start to cut out and clip, (each of the 3 amps have a favorite pair that clip one its channel 3 and 4 the other 1 and 2) while the other 4 continue. It does not do this when I put a trolling battery on it.
I am only running one at the moment till I can figure out how I am going to distribute signal to all from a central amp. Playing with this and the tangents lead me here often so today I joined.

Don't be sorry; it is what it is, but what is it?
The power-supply might not be powerful enough to play square waves at full voltage but seems to play sinewaves (which have the same power peak level as square waves) fine, and thus will also be powerful enough to play music at full volume level with low distortion.
I agree with you then there is no power coming out of nothing.
The board is putting out higher power peaks (157%) then the power supply is rated for; so is the power supply delivering peaks way higher then it's rating or are the power at the peaks (partly) supplied by the cap?
