Hi Guys,
I'm a new member looking for a workshop manual for the above integrated cd player.
The player is pre IAG (TAG) and I am trying to resurrect the unit by replacing the drive and laser which I believe is where the problem lies.
Can anyone help?

No service info but if you can quote the laser pickup used/mech details etc might be able to help.
Pictures maybe ?

Hi,
I believe it to be a Phillips CDM 12.4 and am still trying to get the original out of the player. Iit is encased in a metal casing which is proving difficult to get at.
Have you any info/knowledge of the type?

Hi Mooly,
Thanks for the response.
Immediately at switch on I get an "error" message appearing. I am told that the reason for this is that the "drive motor" for the disc is seized and my intention was toreplace the complete assembly as shown in your picture. However, as I say getting the original out seems to be somewhat tricky. Any idea how much disassembling of the player is required to do this?
The motion associated with the disc tray seems to be fine working both from the remote and the button on the front of the player.

So that is the correct assembly then as shown in my picture ?
First things first. It would help for me to see a picture of the unit and what you actually see when you refer to this "metal casing". The CDM12.4's and the Philips loader assembly are usually easy to work on.
The CDM12.4 has two motors. One for disc which should be free to turn by hand. I have never heard of one seizing. The sled motor is under the mech and drives a worm gear arrangement.
You need to confirm that the laser assembly (the sled) is in the correct rest position at the platter end of its travel. The lens on the laser should move up and down three times quickly when the tray is closed as it sees if it can focus on to a disc.
If the error message appears instantly you power on there may be another issue. The CDM12.4 was notorious for having problems with sticking and jumping caused by the grease solidifying... easily fixed if done properly.

Hi Mooly,
Yes the assembly I have been given to replace mine with looks to be the one you show in your picture in your previous message. However until I can get at mine I can not be absolutely certain and that is the initial problem.
You mention tthe sled being in the correct position - the only thing I can see is the front of the disc tray which appears to be in the correct position when closed. Regarding the laser going up and down - once the tray is closed even with the casing removed I can see nothing of the mechanism as it is ll enclosed in the internal casing I described earlier.
I have taken som pics and I will attach them but at the moment I don't seem to be able to even find the route to do it. Sorry to be such a bore.
The error message is instantaneous at switch on.

Hi Mooly,
I am attaching some pics to assist (if it works).
The first gives an overall view and the internal casing I refer to is on the left side. The three attachment screws are just visible, one on the left side and two on the black bar on the right which runs from front to back of the player. Even with these removed and the screws for the facia removed there does not seem to be a way to get either the assembly out to view what is underneath or inside.
The second pic shows the view from the front with the slider extended.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the pics. The drawer isn't the "normal" Philips loader that the CDM12 series pickups are normally used with. It looks like a DVD drive tbh with the metal can.
I think you are going to have to dismantle it a bit more and see just what is under there.
I found this about the (original ?) 8000 CD and this mentions a Philips series 12 DVD drive.

A service manual or circuit diagram would be a huge help. The fact that error shows instantly wouldn't normally point to a faulty pickup... but if it is a DVD drive then that's a whole different ball game.
It should come apart fairly easily, just make a note of everything you do. The metal cover might also be clipped in place as well as screwed but it's normally a case of unscrewing everything in sight. The assembly may well be held from underneath too.

Bumping this up,
has anyone got CD8000 error get fixed? Earlier my player beginned to spin discs bit badly. I had to skip to 4 or 5 track for example to get spinning and then back to track 1. Now player gives "error" sign and won't spin discs at all. Would this be loader or PSU fault? Is there simple way to measure PSU fault? Or advice how to fix loader if it is cracked?
I have exactly the same looking machine than Spy1066 had.

Power supplies are always a suspect. Do any of the large caps look bulged ? Without a manual, then you need to identify all the PSU rails and both measure and scope them for excess ripple/noise etc. You can gauge the correct voltages by looking at any regulators used, or if discrete regs, then by measuring the rail voltage on the various IC's in the player. For example, any logic will probably run on 5 volts.
If CDM 12.4 laser lens is faulty, is player spinning or not?
I have not worked on my 8000CD lately, now I got inspiration to repair it, maybe buy transport/lens for it.
Just wondering that if CD is not spinning at all, can fault be in Philips lens? ebay sells lenses cheap but it is only lens, not "spinning machine"??
I must try my player, does it spin or not. Error is in the display.

The platter will not spin until the laser focuses onto the reflective surface of the disc. Only when focus is found does the disc then spin up to speed... so yes, a faulty laser/pickup could cause the problem but its not the only possibility.
Can anyone help me identify the mechanism from AudioLab 8000 CDE?
I bought a 2nd hand AudioLab 8000CDE on ebay ages ago.
The transport has never worked correctly, sticking on both opening and closing. When a disk is in and it is closed, it reads and plays excellently. Just opening and closing doesn't work.
I have disassembled it and have been fiddling with the mechanism to see if I can understand what is wrong. I have not made any progress. I am pretty sure the issue is mechanical. On opening, the tray moves one or two mm and then sticks. You can then apply a gentle force with fingers and pull it out. When you close the tray the same thing happens. It sticks at the same point going in. There is no obvious evidence of mechanical damage.
What I would like to do is replace the complete transport mechanism. However I have not been able to identify it or find a replacement. Early posts on this thread suggest that it might be a Phillips series 12 DVD transport. I have googled that but found nothing that looks anything like my transport.
The letters PH02A appear on it in various places. There is a 15 or 16 way ribbon cable from the laser unit. There are two additional connectors one 4 way the other 6 way for the drive electronics.
If anyone can suggest make and model number and where I might get a replacement, I would be very grateful. It came from an AudioLab 8000CDE. The serial number of its parent 8000CDE is 632A000002. Photos below.

It appears to be a Philips CDM12.6. The dac ref list says it's meant to be a CDM12.4, but it clearly is not. I believe the 12.6 is the only mech of the series with a normal, vertical mount tracking motor, rather than the skinny horizontal motor w/worm shaft that 12.4/etc. all have. But the loading mech is completely separate from the CDM, so finding a new 12.6 won't help with this problem. You have tried cleaning and/or replacing the little tray drive belt, right?
