Hi
I need a bit of help. My treasured Audiolab 8000 cd from the mid1990s stopped working yesterday. It displayed an error message when a cd was loaded but then worked for a few hours, however today it is not working at all. I contacted the dealer who sold it to me (Kronos HiFi) and the owner said that repair is likely to be uneconomical due to lack of parts etc etc.
I'm not sure what the cause is but I would be grateful for any advice so that I don't have to sell it for parts.

People might be able to help you more if you describe it what way it's not working: does it load the disk, spin it up, show details on the display, appear to play the track with no sound, able to skip from track to track, etc - how is it malfunctioning ...??
Ok. The player turns on ok and error displays immediately. The drawer opens and closes but the cd will not read and play

What error message is it displaying. I did try to get the error codes from the 'net but drew a blank.
If the CD player is anything like the amps then there could be more than one version under the "8000" banner.
Do you know what mechanism and pickup this player uses. Pictures ?
Typically these kind of faults are pickup or power supply related. Look for bulged and/or leaking caps.
