Hello. I am the improvement of my B&W DM602 S1.
I wonder if replacing the internal cushioning foam with the Sonic Barrier sold at Parts Express would be an improvement.
Sonic Barrier 3/4" 3-Layer Acoustic Sound Damping Material with PSA 18" x 24"
While I like its sound I think it can be improved.
I have even thought of making a new 18mm MDF box, respecting its internal measurements.
The original cabinet is made of particle board.
But now I am interested in knowing if the change in internal buffering would be beneficial.

I show a modification of the BW DM602 S2 box made by someone in Brazil.
This is what I want to do in the future for my BW DM600 S1.

You may want to watch the YouTube video on the mk 2 version made by GR Research. The crossover is badly designed and no amount of cabinet or stuffing mods is going to fix it.
I heard the 601 MK1 in a shop dem when they first came out ( mid 90s) and I was shocked at how terrible they were. Kef coda 8 were far better.

If you want to improve internal damping. Remove all the old stuff and first line with Noico mass loaded butyl (foil covered) sheets to dampen high frequency resonances. Then cover that melamine foam pads (100 count 10cm x 6 x 2cm pads for $7 from China). That stuff has nano pores that absorb better than any other foam or felt. It’s same as BASF Basotect - as patent expired so now is cheap and plentiful. Use hot melt glue to install the foam.
I never heard a B&W that I liked. The crossovers don’t sound good to my ears. If you look at the Streophile reviews and measurements - they are nothing to be impressed by. The time alignment of 802D’s is just awful.
If Danny Ritchie made an improved XO, I would believe his to sound better. His XO designs in general are very good.

In stock form most B&Ws are pretty bad considering the price and how much technology they actually put into the drivers. I recently rebult a set of 802 S2s and couldn't believe the before and after results having focused on the crossovers alone. They went from sounding irritating to amazing just from replacing most the crossover parts except for the air core inductors. The tweeters are some of the best metal domes I've heard to date aside from some more exotic Be domes.
The particle board isn't your problem and going with mdf will be disappointing unless you brace it extremely well.
From these comments, I see that these boxes are not what I thought. I bought them new in 1996 at U $ S 700, based on comments in specialized magazines such as What hifi That Was Then... B&W DM602 review | What Hi-Fi?
Although I have always noticed something tiring at the high end, I do not fail to recognize the richness of detail and the clarity mainly of the voices.
I've been reading and even opened a post here in the forum, to try to correct what I find tiring in the treble.
B&W DM 602 crossover
But the mods that exist are for the S2 version.
I have consulted GR Research, but I think the mod you have is for the S2 version.
It strikes me that a company like Bowers & Wilkins makes a loudspeaker with crossovers and such erroneous measurements.
I see the videos of their factory that is impressive and I think, these supposedly wrong measurements are not because they wanted them to be that way?

Without going into it too much, those old B&W speakers were overly bright at the top, decent enough in the bass, and prone to breakup from the 6" Kevlar bass. Generally got on your nerves after an hour. 🙄
Quick fix is probably to take the treble down a bit (by adding resistance) and go second order on the bass (by adding a 4.7uF capacitor);

I wouldn't stress to much about the cabinet, though even a bit of carpet can help slightly.

Thank you. This you propose is similar to what is mentioned in this

In this case, the tweeter is reversed?

If you ask for opinions on What-hifi? magazine, over at pinkfishmedia.net, most people will tell you not to believe anything written in it. There's actually a thread over their now titled "Top 5 worst integrated amps". Have a look at how many times the What-hifi? award-winning Audiolab 8000A gets a mention.

Nice to hear from fatmarley, but what are you saying? I always thought the Audiolab 8000A was a decent amplifier. A competent Class A/B design. 😀
My experience says it's positive polarity. I'd start with 2.2R on the tweeter and 4.7uF on the midbass. Rutcho may be taliking rubbish on phase/polarity. Who knows? I can hear it myself. But am a Classically trained musician. I can always hear Phasiness immediately. Sounds echoey. Imaging is all wrong.
But model it if in doubt. I gave you the tools. Worst that can happen is you swap two wires. On the bass if it is easier.

Thanks System7. I will do the tests and then I comment.
Adding resistor in the high pass is easy and can be done in the terminals since it has terminals for tweeter and terminals for midbass.

Hi. Have you suppressed your DM602? Did you use the mentioned Sonic Barrier? I also plan to dampen the same loudspeakers. Have you changed the elements of the crossover to better quality components? I would like to use air coils and Jantzen capacitors. I don't know if it will have a better effect.
Yes, I can confirm, it belongs to my uncle's it is his project. Now it is a DM602 S3 with modified XO, it plays very good. I own an orginal DM602 S3 with modified XO, it plays very good, powerful bass but this modified case made the difference.I show a modification of the BW DM602 S2 box made by someone in Brazil.

Nicolaskwk, I'm glad to find someone who knows Zippang.
I always admired the B&W DM602 boxes made by him.
Would it be wrong if I ask you for a diagram with measurements of that box made by your uncle?
How did you modify the crossover of your B&W dm602 S3? I don't think it will suit the S1 but I would like to try.
Greetings José from Uruguay.
