Hey everyone, recently acquired a Behringer Europower PMP4000 from a friend who has no use for it. The power amp doesn't work, which is fine because I don't need it. Here's the problem:
Channels 1-6 work fine. Channels 7-8 only work when PFL is engaged. So obviously it's getting signal just fine but it's not feeding it out to the main. Is that right? First time getting into the world of live sound. I play in a rock band and I'm starting to mix our live sound.
Also, I'm pretty experienced with electronics. I do work on my guitar amplifiers and I can read a schematic. If it's something on the bus, I'm sure I can open her up and pinpoint it!
Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated!

channels on? all assignment/signal routing switches properly selected? all patches/input cables in the right places? if the power amps dead it could be these channels where the source/reason but i can't tell i'm not there.
could be as simple as bad faders. could also be insert jack troubles.

The channels are on and everything should be on a setting where the channel is audible but I'm not getting any signal to the main output.
I was testing the console earlier using the Cntrl/Phones jack to listen to each channel. I can only get sound when the channel has the PFL switch on, when it's disengaged, no sound at all.
I was told the power amp was fried because of a faulty wall outlet at a venue. But as everything else is working as it should. The effects section works, I get phantom power, and the mic preamps (save for channels 7/8) are working fine.
What's the proper way of fixing a bad fader? Contact cleaner and working the full sweep of the fader?
Thanks in advance!

sorry to say but it might need to be replaced(just to worn or broken)
your problem could still be bad/faulty insert jack. without knowing your level of ability in troubleshooting i don't know what else to suggest.

does it respond to mechanical shock as in cut in/out if you tap on the fader or apply pressure to the faceplate (would be an indication of cracked solder joints) all the while monitoring the main out
Always replace faulty sliders. I was going to mention inserts. Have you consulted the service manual and established the signal path?

Would he even have a service manual?, it's VERY hard to try and find Behringer ones 🙁
Certainly it would make life a LOT easier if he had, and if he could post it here.
I've seen mixers with 'smashed' pots, where it looks intact but it's been knocked back and broken the track inside the pot - killing that channel.
As he has two duff channels, particularly that still work via a different path, it could well be something like that?.
Turk, it doesn't respond to mechanical shock - dead quiet. Let me open her up and see what's going on. Always better to look under the hood, than directly at it.
I'll report back in a while.
I don't have a service "MANUAL" but I do have a schematic for the entire thing.
Thank you all for your expertise!

That should make it pretty easy then, as well as having plenty of working channels you can compare to.
Let us be clear. Ch7-12 only work when PFL is on? Is that REALLY the case? Nothing comes out the mains until the PFL goes on, then sound comes out the main from them? Or is it more that with PFL on the VUs show signal. WHERE does the sound come out when these channels are working?
The PFL feed is just another bus like monitors or FX, and should have no affect on what comes out the main L/R.

Quite simply: When PFL is off, I don't get any sound. The VUs don't show signal. Nothing. When it's on, I get sound.
