Hi Gentlemen,
I am delighted with my just finished Alpair 10P speakers. I have built several smaller full rangers using Tang band 4 inch drivers in the past and liked them pretty well, but the Alpairs are in a whole different league. I would like to turn a couple of friends on to this full range experience, but dont want to spend more than necessary on the builds since I'll be gifting them.
A while back forum resident XRK, who is very knowledgeable, suggested that on a super low budget the Dayton Audio PA 130 would work well for the price. I built a pair, and while they were not bad they had little to none of the "magic" I hear in the 10Ps.
So, are there any full rangers that approach the bass depth, detail, and SPL levels of the 10Ps for a significantly lower price? I think I'm asking for a lot here but am hoping that there are some hidden gems out there.
Best,
Jay

Alpair 10.3 is still on sale at Madisound for $85. If you like a bit more treble extension, then some might prefer it to the 10p. There's also the Alpair 11MS for the same price, which is very close to the A10.3. And the latest entry from Mark Audio, the CHN-110 for $66.40, but there doesn't seem to be any feedback on how it sounds yet.

Thanks for the input. What are the similaraties and differences between the Alpair 10P and the 11MS? I see that the 11MS does well in a smaller cabinet, which I like, but wonder about other differences.
I almost bought the less expensive TB W5 2143 instead of the 10Ps but the 2.5mm Xmax according to WinIsd limits bass SPL to 97db vs. 102 for the 10P.
I am leaning towards the 11MS, but dont want to pull the trigger if there is sometning available for about half the price that gets half of the "magic " of the 10P.

W5-2143 gets my vote. I have them and really like them. A budget option is PA130-8. I have heard a lot of full range drivers and the 2143 has unusual ability for deep bass and good highs, great sensitivity, and at a reasonable price.
Another vote for W5-2143. I actually prefer the W5-2143's augmented by bass modules to my K-horn clones for reproduction of voices.
I just ordered the MS 11s. Since the gold MS 11s just sold out, I was afraid that if I waited the grey 11s at the sale price would be gone too. Can anyone tell me how they compare sonically to the 10Ps? I am a bit concerned about the durability and longevity of the MS suspension. I hope I did the right thing...
Any recommendations for the cabinet for a W5-2143?
Thanks,
Mike

Hard to beat the A10.3/p.
The A11ms is closer to the A10.3 in terms of character than the A10p.
The A11ms, with the monoSuspension allows it to have greater DDR (ability to reproduce [and not bury] the small details in the music. It has more extended HF response than the A10p. The way it was configured (T/S) means that it fits into a really small BR box and won’t likely be as bass capable as the A10p unless installed in a big loudspeaker like Frugel-Horn XL or Pensil11 (ML-TL).
As it turns out i finally had some time to start work on the A11ms Mar-Kens and the 6” driver in a small box leads to something fairly squat and as i look at the boxes think, i wnder what helper woofers i could put into a woofer acting as stand with the same footprint.
The monoSuspension certainly brings the issue of what happens when it is exposed to high evels with LF. But Scott & crew actually tired to break a pair in FHXL when the driver was first presented in the UL at the Bristol show, They were unable. We have also been unable to preturb it with our SeaStack ML-TL. There ar esoe indications that the A7ms may have more of an issue (it does have greater LF potential, bu tless cone area).
The CGR for the A11ms is the same size (and likely close to the same tuning) as these:
For reference the optimum miniOnken size is 9 litres. The alignment tends towards smaller boxes but is representative.

<rant> the official “colours” are left-overs from the 1st gen when grey & gold drivers were actually made, all the current drivers are copper or silver</rant>
