Best budget Av Receiver for music, (July 2013)

Im in need of a way to power 7 Mark Audio Alpair 10.3 full range drivers for a bar refit I am involved with.

These speakers are revealing, and can sing on a few watts. These will be used for 8hrs, playing all channel stereo at low volumes, background music, and cranked up occasionally for the odd after work party.

I am considering a combo of old pre and power amps, but for a single plug, clean source, digital input, equalisation, individual speaker volume and room adjustments, av's seem too good not too use. Airplay would be an amazing bonus, but all other bells and whistles will be unused.

So I am looking for a really good sounding 7.1 Av receiver, for as cheap as is practical £400 +/-

Happy for suggestions of brands, models or any other info you may be willing to share.

Thanks in advance.

True. But I'm sure lots of people seek ways to power their speakers and such. I've seen a few and have had some suggestions on other threads I have sneaked the question into. But thought I would start a dedicated one to avoid annoying others. Just incase it makes a difference the speakers are homemade Alpair's.

Are you meaning listening with AV receiver set in 2.0 or 2.1 stereo,
Or are you going to make use of the build in DSP and play all 5.1 or 7.1 speakers.
The Yamaha RX-V373 (5.1)(2012) model works well in "Standard" and "Drama" DSP modes as well as 5 channel stereo mode.
I'm using this receiver for my movie and tv viewing.
Choosing the right speaker set is very important.

I'm sure the 2013 version would be a good budget buy, this one is real cheap in my opinion, there 7.1 receivers are abit more but maybe worth the extra cost.

Do you intend to listen to music in 2.0 or 2.1 stereo,
If so don't buy a AV receiver and go with a decent HIfi amp.

For stereo listening I originally had a nice Yamaha hifi amp, but now I'm using
a stereo DIY build amplifier, which I'm very happy with.

Regards

This is for a simple means to play one source to a bar (4rooms) with 7 speakers. With one volume control. One on and off. One plug, not too many da/ad etc

The amp will be running in 'all stereo mode' with each pair recieving the same 2 channel input.

One computer - amp - 7 Alpair 10.3's

I'm currently thinking about something similar - slightly different purpose (Home Theatre and music at home) but probably using CHR-70s.

My research and what listening I've been able to do suggests Yamaha, Denon and Marantz are the more musical end of things for this budget, with Onkyo being very HT-centric and being quite poor for music.

Is second hand an option? If so, a lot of people rate the Arcam receivers very highly for music, and once you get pre-HDMI they get very cheap indeed.
