Bill Waslo Cosyne Unity Horns

For sale is the only set of Cosyne Unity Horns in the world that were built by Bill Waslo.

I bought them for $500 but spent $1000 picking them up, and I'm looking to recoup what I paid for them. The speakers are for sale for $1500 for the pair.

The bass drivers in the Unity horn are no longer available. If I'm not mistaken, the only way to build these Unity horns would be to find the woofers (which are no longer available) or redesign the crossover.

I rented a set of Danley SH-50s in 2015, and I liked them so much that I offered to buy them. The owner of the Synergy Horns wasn't interested in selling them. So I bought the Waslo Unity horns instead, in 2019.

These were my reference speakers for about two years, but my wife banned them from the living room. (They're BIG.)

I'm located in a suburb of Las Vegas. These are BIG speakers; when I bought them I flew out to pick them up and then drove them to where I live. In order to move them you'll need a fairly large SUV or a pickup truck. I actually bought a SUV to move the Synergy Horns that I rented in 2015!

Here's some info on the speakers:

For future reference, a pair of SH-50s does fit into a Honda CR-V.

Hi Patrick!

This is off topic of your thread, but I was wondering if you might be able to PM me or possibly talk about some horn design/speakers I am building. Im still very early in my audio engineering career and so far I am just a broke engineering college student and I spent 5k on a cnc machine that I put in my closet so I can engineer, and produce speakers. I recently built a very nice looking two way speaker with Morel CAT308 tweeters and FaitalPRO 8fe200 and am working on a 10" subwoofer with a Ciare HS251. I came across a few of your threads and you seem to have done some really cool stuff. The only problem I have is The horn I made seems to have some slight sonic problems. I don't wanna go into too much detail here but I would really appreciate if I could exchange a few words with you!

It's funny, because in hindsight, I should have simply rented a uhaul or an SUV when I rented the SH-50s.

I'd read a bunch of car reviews which said the Mazda CX-5 was the "sporty" crossover, and so I bought one. I thought the reviews might be true, that this was a "crossover" that drove like a sports sedan. As a bonus, I needed some way to move the SH-50s.

Turns out the CX5 is a complete dud. Probably my least favorite vehicle I've ever owned. Any magazine that says "a crossover that's sporty like a sports sedan" is lying!

I still like Mazdas but now I have a Miata 🙂

Price drop to $1000 for the pair

Price drop to $800 for the pair.

These are some excellent speakers and I really don't want to take them to the landfill, but they're taking up a lot of space.

I'm giving it about six weeks. If nobody buys them, I'll remove the drivers and the crossover and haul them to the dump. Which would be tragic. This is one of the best Unity horns in the entire world.

In case anyone thinks this isn't a screaming deal:

1) the compression drivers are $50 each

2) the midranges are about $20 for a set

3) the woofers are completely unobtanium, but are comparable to units selling for about $50 each. Let's call it $200 for the woofers

4) The parts in the crossover are worth about $80 per side. This is a three way speaker with a complex crossover

5) The paint is about $20

6) the binding posts are about $10

7) The biggest expense in the entire speaker is the cabinet. Just the plywood is worth about $100 per side, but Bill Waslo easily spent 20-40 hours building the cabinets.

Basically, you would spend about $1000 to make this speaker yourself, and this assumes that your time is worth absolutely nothing, and that you have access to the AuraSound Woofers which are unobtanium.

Again, I don't want to put this speaker in a landfill, but I also need to free up the space. It's currently sitting in the garage of a house that I'm renting out, and my tenants are getting irritated that it's there.

Jeez, we need to organize a rescue mission for these speakers. I could see them having their own tour across North America between diyAudio members. Please don’t take them to the landfill.

Anyone in the Las Vegas area able to take them if we, as appreciators of @Patrick Bateman ’s contributions, collectively pay for their stay of execution?

I wonder…is there a reasonable way to separate the horn/drivers/crossovers from the big enclosure and offer them for sale so shipping might become more viable?

Then the new owner could reproduce the larger exterior enclosure based on provided measurements?

Just brainstorming out loud…I always seem to be on the wrong side of the country when something like this is offered up…although I did just score a beautiful pair of Kirishima back horns by me that I always wanted to try.

$800 is insane for these speakers!
