Bose Media Center RJ45 cable pinout

Hi,

I've recently bought a Bose model AV18 Media Center and its brother PS28 II Powered Speaker System. Unfortunately, I do not have the cable to digitally connect the two items (8pin mini DIN connector on the media center, RJ45 on the speaker).

The cable can be found on ebay (for instance here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16618116...128FgunGWRBezGQ1UoRQ0p7g==|tkp:Bk9SR7qel_icYg ), but frankly speaking I don't want to spend more than 50-60 EUR for it...

Any idea about the connectors' pinout scheme of both ends?

As usual, thx a lot in advance to everyone 🙂

Hello to everyone,

eventually I've found a Bose link cable at a reasonable price. It works perfectly!

In order to help anyone with the same problem, I've tried to detect the connectors' scheme: pins 3,4 and 6 of RJ45 are not connected, while pins 2 and 5 are shorted and individually shielded.

Here attached, you cand find a couple of pictures trying to describe at my best both pinouts (mini DIN plug vs RJ45). Hope they are understandable.

Please don't hesitate to contact me in case of doubts.

Have fun!

Hi Phmathinh, Mooly and DarkManX

sorry for the late reply.
Obviously, drawing diagrams is not my best...

Maybe a brief explanation could help you:

. a standard RJ45 plug has 8 pins, as shown in RJ45 pinout.jpg (see my previous post). The pin 1 is the first one at the right of that picture, the pin 8 is the last at the left side. Of course, the other ones from 2 to 7 are between those two, numbered from right to left

. those pins are connected to the male mini din plug (see Mini DIN vs RJ45.jpg) as shown in that picture. For instance, the pin 1 of RJ45 is connected to the central pin of the mini DIN plug upper row (see 2nd picture). And so on. Pins 5 & 8 of RJ45 are shielded and connected together to two mini DIN pins (see picture)

. the mini DIN pins marked as "NC" are Not Connected to any RJ45 pin

Not so difficult, I think.

I hope this can help you. Please let me know in case any further explanation is necessary

See you soon, Paolo
