I have just finished a pair of floorstanders for HT. They did not come out as good as I've hoped for but it's understandable as I've used "cheap" drivers. Now I am looking at purchasing a good pair of reference stereo floorstanders for my Aleph 30 and Gainclones.
I have listened to the B&W 603 S3, AE Evo 3, QEF Q7, Boston VR3 and VR2 and Heybrook H3 and H4 floorstanders. My room is 9m X 6m (28ft X 19ft) so it's fairly large to fill.
After listening to these speakers I found the Heybrook H4s to be very complementary but they have one "flashy' finished that won't go with my furniture. The Bostons are also extremely good! I love the depth of the base and the clean, smooth mids and highs. They are rated at 93db which is extremely effecient.
Question is if anyone here has listened to the Bostons and how you would rate them as a good reference speaker.

Sorry haven't heard those brands, but I'm assuming these are around $1000 /pair. You may consider Magnepan MMG's and a good sub (perhaps the PartsExpress kits if your still rattled after your DIY experience). It would be an excellent system right at about $1000.
I have mine in a slightly larger room (about 20x25) running off a 35W Class A amp, and it is able to get pretty loud (to me), a powered sub would definently fill it out, as the bass is most lacking.
Just something <else> to consider 🙂
Oh ya, and don't give up after a lousy experience! Why where would we be if everyone that ever got in a car wreck stopped driving!?! 😀 😉

I've heard good things about the maggies too, but the planar stuff is supposed to be very inefficient. Though, if nothing you can demo them. I think they have something on their website now where you can use them for like a month and send 'em back if you don't like them.
