Hi everyone,
I've done a small four part review of the Bowers & Wilkins 685 stand-mount loudspeaker. It contains a lot of loudspeaker and driver measurements and some Mod suggestions on how to improve the sound quality of this loudspeaker.
You can read more about it here:

Hi Göran!
A very nice review and also very useful as a proposal of a modification. I'm impressed by the product quality which is solid and of pretty good performance considering such a simple XO filter.

Well done.
I miss the days of the old reviews that showed the internals.
Me too! That's why I once in a while do a review for fun and where I can see that improvements can be done to the design.

Erik, rumor says the Dynaudios use 1st order filters but truth is a little bit different. Audience 42C has a 1st order LP for woofer, 2nd order for tweeter. Focus 110 has one inductor and an RC on woofer, a single cap and a phase delay circuit that effectively adds to the steepness of HP for tweeter. Secondly, these speakers already have lower XO frequencies so there is not very much you can do about them. Maybe use the chepeast of the line product and mod the filter to a one that is normally used in the top of the line.
Very nice job. 🙂
Maybe we should do this for like, every Dynaudio? Hahahaa. 🙂

🙂
Though, I think Dynaudio plays in a different league!
I never fully understood B&W's design choices.
Often, very nice drivers and enclosures, but poorly implemented cross-over designs, but apparently they sell speakers so that's what people likes and want! 😉

Well done Göran !
The modified crossover FR looks much better than the orignal one.

That's the kind of reviews I'd like to see more often. Internals and frequency response. But curves don't always tell full story) I am kind of done with bw. Only a pair left. I think they are too brittle, metalic sounding. Tiresome. My new love is vienna speakers. Laid back. Musical. Can leave them playing for days and they won't annoy u. Basically like part of your family. Bw is more like a guest That needs to leave after some time.
Good morning everyone. Excellent review as there are few on the internet.
I have some B&W DM602 S1 bought new in 1997. I liked them but I always noticed an exaggeration in their treble.
For some time now I have been looking for updates to your crossover to achieve an improvement.
I have found updates for DM602 S2 and S3 models: For DM601 S3, but not for DM602 S1.
I have tried the modifications for BW Dm602 S3 and DM601 S3 but it is blind, without measurements and they do not convince me after listening to them for a while.
Could someone post measurements of the B&W DM602 S1? and suggestions for its modification.
These mods have been suggested in another post, but since I don't have measurements of the original I think it doesn't fit reality.
Greetings and I repeat, very good revision of 685.

OP, in part 4 suggested crossover improvements sites "close phase tracking" however, the graphs presented do not appear to concur
Why are you replaying in this thread? Your question has nothing to do with the original post, and you won't catch any answer. Better to start a new thread instead.I have some B&W DM602 S1 bought new in 1997. I liked them but I always noticed an exaggeration in their treble.

Having said that, if you haven't already found a mod it is unlikely you'll find here what you are searching. The DM602 S1 is an old speaker and probably nobody will mess it now just for fun. You have only two sensible choices: do it yourself with the aid of measurement equipment, or sell the speakers and get better ones.
