Hello all! I have a Sony SRS ZR7 speaker that fell the other day. Unfortunately, since the fall the speaker produces a buzzing noise when playing louder music. I have taken the grill off and noticed that there is a scratch on the thing (cone? sub?) second from the right. Seems that the buzzing is coming from that one as when I touch it when music is playing and sound no longer comes out the buzzing stops. I have tried to open the unit to no success, as even when removing all screws the front plate is really wedged on there. Does anyone have any suggestions for DIY fixes or advice on how the unit can be opened or is this the end of my dear speaker’s life? Thanks!

my guess is that fall may have shifted the magnet and coil is rubbing
easy to find out, when not playing, gently push the cone with fingers in the dust cap back and forth, you may hear the rubbing
test all the speakers, just in case not just one is faulty
as for opening it, it likely needs some force once the screws are out
if it does not want to come out, use more force 🙂

Going by the bash on the woofer cone, it's possible that the voice coil may have been pushed out of alignment in the magnetic gap, without the magnet itself having shifted.
I've looked, but unfortunately I don't see Sony offering replacement woofers for this product.
When you get inside the enclosure, you could send us photos of the rear of the woofer (top and side views) so we can inspect the magnet system.

Thank you so much @adason and @Galu! Got it open, attached are photos from all angles. When I push down on the cone I do hear a rubbing noise, but only on that one cone. Any suggestions for next steps? I’m willing to give a DIY fix a try if there is a good youtube video and any hope of fixing it (even if it’s not promising)

It's hard to tell from your photos if the magnet has shifted.
If you remove the driver from the enclosure and photograph it directly and squarely from the back and the side, we may be able to tell for certain.
