I have been building a midi drum brain aver the last few months and have just completed the part which deals with the piezo hit to the midi out, my next challange is to add to this circuit and make a recorded drum sound play when the piezo disc is hit, i know I could just buy an alesis DM5 drum module, but i'm trying to build a more simplified version.
I was thinking perhaps that this sample playing circuit would or could be triggered from my PIC in my midi circuit?
So what I need is a circuit that will play a sampled sound when a piezo is hit, the sound will be played through headphones.

EPE October 2005 had a project 'Halloween Howler' that plays back a sound sample from an EEPROM using a PIC, with a 512kb EEPROM you get about 6 seconds of audio.
It can be configured to be light activated, or triggered by a simple pin input - it should do what you require?

Just by chance i stumbled on this thread after I left a message here, I turns out I will be utilizing a ISD 2500 series chip to store my sounds.

Which will be fine if all you want to make is a nasty toy. Have you read the specs?
