No, the lamp must be a 1000 watt and the lamp must also be a MH.

By the way a 1000W MH will light up the whole neighbor hood. Even a 400W is really bright. What are you wanting to light up?

I'll admit to never having made mine yet. (a projector is an expensive dream for me, but I'm getting there), but from what I understand from my own research....

1: You should be able to view the thing in broad daylight

2: the power consumption will be enormous

3: Plan on using an air conditioner for the cooling system

4: Don't look directly at the thing (Heck, don't look indirectly at it)

😛

You possibly could use a different cap with this ballast to make it closer to 400w, but you will end up spending more getting this to work, than reselling it. And I own a 1000w projector, and it is HOT. There is no way you will be able to use it on a lilliput and a small box. my box is 4 foot tall and like 18" wide. Just thought I would give you an FYI. One more thing. 1000w bulbs have a long arc, and are a paint to deal with. I recommend going with the 400w setup. Good luck.

I decided to go the 400W route. I'm probably going to buy one of the LL eballasts off of someone.

NOw the question is, does anyone need a 1000W ballast? Although I should probably wait until I actually get it in the mail before I try to pawn it off 😀
