Does anyone know the wattage of the Public Address (PA) output of these(below) or any CB radio? Do they vary greatly in wattage?
Also, how loud do they get? Very loud at all?
I am wanting to install a CB radio in my car so I can use the CB incase of emergency or traffic jam. I am also wanting to use the CB radio for various needs; thats why im wondering how loud they can get.

Alot of CB's use the same IC for the modulator,speaker,and PA.
Usually ~4W,IIRC.. (the PN: TA7217 comes to mind?)

As DigitalJunkie said, most CB's use basically the same audio chip IC. Even if the radios use different IC's, their wattage output remains about the same, as the IC specifications are similar. Most CB radios generally put out 4 - 5 watts into an 8-ohm speaker through the PA jack. With 4 -5 watts into a PA speaker, it can be fairly loud, you can buy a speaker horn specifically for the PA jack, you can find those on ebay for fair prices, just type in CB PA SPEAKER to find them. If you go to www.cobra.com, & click on CUSTOMER SERVICE, then click PRODUCT MANUALS you can view the manual of the Cobra radios you are looking at. When you view the manual, go to the specifications page and look for the PA output wattage, not every manual states the PA wattage, but I would still say its no more than 4 - 5 watts for most CB radios.
All three of the radios you are looking at are nice, though I would buy the Cobra 148GTL or the UNIDEN PC 78 ELITE, the Cobra 19DX IV would perform fine if you are trying to save space, but generally the smaller radios do not perform as well as the bigger ones, after a tune up most of them do though. I would probably buy the Cobra 148GTL as its performance is most likely the best as it has SSB. Since its an AM & and SSB radio, its most likely better in noise rejection than the other two & the quality of them are usually better as well. Plus you have Side Band in case you need to use it. You may want to consider a Cobra 29 LTD, as they are awesome radios as well, they are basicly the same as the UNIDEN PC 78 ELITE.

OK, I was just browsing the posts and thought I would try to help out as I do a lot of CB radio work, as well as buy and sell a lot of radios. Would you suggest any Cobra radios that have a channel search feature. Im not a serious truck driver, I am just putting this in my car to kind of have fun with it as well as if something actually does happen, i would have a radio with me for safety.
The features I would want are NOAA, PA capability, channel search but it seems that there are models out there with channel search but no PA. Then there are ones with PA and search but no NOAA.

If I remember correctly, SSB is more efficient since it only transmits one sideband with the modulated audio, not two sidebands plus a carrier. So, an SSB rig transmits with more effect power than a regular AM CB while staying within the legal power limit.
Some radios have SWR meters built in; that'll be more convenient.
Pace and President were among the higher-end CBs back in the day. There were some models with a telephone-style handset; I think Radio Shack did one of those too. Probably popular with posers who wanted people to think they had a car phone in the days before cellular telephones.
There must be CB forums someplace where you can find more advice.
Oh yeah, there's probably some CBs that include those "Family Radio Service" walkie talkie bands; that could be useful if you're convoying with someone who doesn't have a CB in their car.

WELL if you install a 5000 watts audio amp you might reach several city blocks. if you install a 300 watts RF amp it could reach over 3000 miles .

In the 1970s and 80s CB radios was very popular "mainly to avoid traffic speeding tickets but also to bs and talk very long distance with out a ham radio license after the gestapo FCC stop hounding people with RF amps. Here is why i need the stiff drugs = in the 70s 80s and even early 90s traffic tickets were still relative cheap. Today any moving violation equals the extreme ticket given to a extreme speeders of the 1970s,80s " A 200 MPH speeding ticket". But yet CB is no longer used to avoid those speeding traps! . Most cage operators " steel cage@cars" rather blah away in the cell phone <--this are useless for warning other of a financial disaster and high insurance premiums!. People are either lazy,dumb or dont like drilling or installing ugly antennas . What ever it is it dont take much to get a $200.00+ speeding tickets this days.

As far as the output of the PA system, it's only about 5 watts. You can pick up a decent outdoor speaker for about $15-$25.
It will not be very loud. But you'll be able to get the attention of anyone that walks by you. You won't be as loud as a police car. You'll need amplification for that.
