Hello,
I own a Xonar U7 usb soundcard that I plan to use in a budget multichannel system, but I have two concerns:
The low output voltage bothers me....
I am thinking on getting a Sound Blaster X3, that has a 8 channel AKM AK4458vn (don't know if it is an upgrade relative to the CS4398), but more relevant for me, does anybody know what is the output voltage of th Sound Blaster X3? Cannot find it anywhere
Thanks!
I own a Xonar U7 usb soundcard that I plan to use in a budget multichannel system, but I have two concerns:
- only 1 volt line output
- two different dac chips: CS4398 for the main 2 channels, and the lesser CS4362 for the rest

I've been using an Asus U7, which has been slowly dying
Took a chance and replaced the U7 with Soundblaster X3 and it works on Linux - Out Of The Box ... at least on kernel 5:15 (ubuntu 22.04 & moodeaudio 8.02 tested so far)
Using the U7 ... and now the X3 for 3-way active speakers ie. 6 channels via Moodeaudio & CamillaDSP.
My subjective opnion after ~2 hours is that the X3 sounds better, probably because I was using one of the "worse" U7 channels for treble whereas the X3 channels are likely to be "all the same" given the DAC chips involved
Confirm Soundblaster X3 works out of the box and produces a good result !
Alsa info for X3 (from Moodeaudio 8.02 / kernel 5:15.28)
The only Max V info I have suggests ~ 2V from here ASR Forum - X3 Output Voltage
Even more Alsa info for the X3
I'm posting this to help anyone else wondering about a "cheap" usb soundcard for active speakers. My main alternative was going to cost 6 times as much where I am for "some" benefit but not 6x
I've also sworn off the U7 even though they're still available used, from AliExpress. Just not reliable and quite old now.
