Chinese power amplifiers

My old Yamaha M60 is getting a bit old so I am looking to replace it.

The Chinese seem to be producing some good stuff but my knowledge is very limited. I know this is a DIY site but there is some fantastic expertise out there.

Are any of the Chinese power amps worth considering?
I run a 4 way Active system and want to replace the amplifier for the slot tweeters first.
The Yamaha is switchable class A 20 W 8 ohms.

replace internal with TPA3255 class D board, about 50 USD

thats the best you can do

you cant find better sounding solution

if no have GaN Based Class D amplifier

I think you would be better off to re-furb, if it needs it, your M60 than to pay for a new Chinese amp that will not be the same quality.
I just had a couple of P-2200's in for service, change the old binding posts, tune up etc, battle tanks. All they really need are new ecaps and they are almost as good as new.
I did not even change the ecaps, but I could tell measuring the thd/noise that one needed new ecaps, the other was fine.

Hi

Change the electrolytics in your old amp and its performance will improve greatly.

Cap manufacturers say that the service life of an electro is 14-years max, regardless of how the life vs temp calculates out. The dissipation factor and ESR both crazy after a few years and this effects the audio performance because the power supply is the other half of the signal path.

Just because something is old does not mean you have to change it. The exception is for electrolytic caps.

Also, despite the fact that class-D amps have been around since the mid-1960s, they are still immature technology and have poor fidelity compared to linear circuits. if you are decided on replacing the old amp, stay with linear. Class-D is only good for bass amps.

I cant confirn,...

TPA3255 beat old linear amp in sound quality

Your Yamaha is a very good mid-range amp, better than all the options mentioned so far. I see no reason to replace it unless it's faulty. Even the capacitors may still be within specifications, but you need to learn how to test them yourself to be sure.

There are issues with these amps with the boards slowly degrading otherwise yes I would upgrade the caps but no point unless the boards could be replaced.
Its Class AB switchable to class A.

Trouble is I've got three of them and they all exhibit the same problem so I will replace them.

Now I need a quote for someone to build me 3!!!!

I was looking at some experience of people purchasing in the USA they had some good things to say about chinese amps pointing out very few manufacturers fully build in house. Most phones are manufactured there.
More research required I think but opinions welcome.
