Connecting Powered PC Speakers To TV Headphone Jack, Need Amp - Help Please

Hi,

I've searched all over the web and haven't really found an answer. Could someone here please help me?

I have a Vizio 26" LED TV that has a digital audio output and headphone output jack only.

I would like to connect a small set of PC 2.1 powered speakers to this TV for more volume and better sound. I have the Logitech S220 speakers.

The only way I can see to do this is to connect the speakers to the headphone out jack on the TV, but when I do that, the volume level is not significantly increased, and in fact I believe the TV speakers are louder, but with much less bass.

Is there a small very inexpensive amplifier / preamp that I can build or obtain that would boost the volume from the TV to the external speakers?

It seems to me that such an amplifier should have 1/8" input and 1/8" outputs with impedance to match both ins and outs??

I've seen the TA2024 amps, TA2020 amps discussed in various forums, but I've never seen them discussed for use in the application that I've described.

I'm open to all ideas and suggestions, and I'm able to do construction and mods, but I'm not an electronics pro, so please pardon my rather basic communication.

Please help if possible with some suggestions, and sincere thanks in advance.

Hey, I got a ta2024 little amp from ebay, all assembled, for about $12. Hooked that up to my 46" tv and a couple of old speakers I had around. The sound is much much better than what the tiny tv speakers could do. Oh yeah, I powered the little amp with a 12V/1A wall wart. No headaches. Can be really loud.

The one I got looks similar to this:

I'm in no way connected to this seller, and I forgot who the seller was that I got it from. Just look around and you'll find some good solution.

Yes. I used a 3.5mm jack (you know, mini stereo/headphone jack) to RCA cable.

Do you think the one below might accomplish the same thing?

I see no reason why it wouldn't. Your speakers will probably make more difference. I once found a couple of detachable speakers from those old boomboxes that were really clear and much better than pc speakers. Lots to be found in thrift stores. Almost anything will beat the tiny speakers these flat panel tvs got.

I have a couple of boombox speakers that I might try once I get an amp and install it. I was trying to connect the S220's because of the subwoofer, but I'll see how the boomboxers do also.
