I'm planning to build the above crossover and have a 25ohm rheostat I'm hoping that there is some way to use for P1.
Is it possible to sand a portion of the metal rheostat body and solder the 15ohm resistor to it as a 3rd lug, or do I just
need to purchase a wire wound 25ohm potentiometer with 3 lugs? Rheostat in question is pictured below.
Thank for your help.
Technically you should go for the potentiometer, however the variable aspect might not be necessary and you could use fixed resistors, or a combination.
Thanks. This crossover will be for my Altec 604E's, which I use for mixing/mastering in addition to music listening, so I really would like the variable control to dial in a flat response for the room/speaker position(they may be moving in the near future). If it's not possible to convert the rheostats I already have then I'll buy a pair of potentiometers.
It isn't clear that the original circuit gives a consistent response with the wiper in different positions. It may not, therefore, be necessary to be so exact.
On the other hand, you could simulate with the wiper in different positions if you wanted to make sure..
