I've been a reader of DIY audio for some time, but only recently thought about dipping my toes in. I have been looking a speaker designs for a first project, and found the Dayton III / Zaph BAMTM designs to be suitable.
However, for love nor money can I find a supplier in the UK for the Dayton drivers used in the designs! (The UK really needs a partsexpress 🙂 ). Has anyone tried to build these designs in the UK, and have a supplier, or information on equivalent drivers they used?
If not, is it a case of trawling though driver specs, trying to find similar ratings? (I have a feeling I'm not going to find any close to the price that Americans get their Daytons for!)
Any information very much appreciated.

Not UK based, but Europe based. Not used them myself but this supplier stocks the Dayton DA175 and the SEAS 27TBFCG from the BAMTM project and possibly the Dayton drivers for the other Zaph project you mention. Probably not as cheap as PartsExpress, but at least you'd avoid import duty.

Looking at specs is not going to give you a very full picture on substitution, and with the design being well done in the first place using the specific drivers becomes even more important.
Me and a friend have ordered from Parts Express before with no problems. It took less than a week to arrive.

richie00boy - That is a good sign from parts express, did you have to pay import duty on the parcel, and was the shipping reasonable?
I notice madisound is mentioned on the forums alot also, anyone have any experience with importing to the UK with them?

Don't know if you already know this but if your importing things from outside the EU the general rule of thumb is that items up to a value of £18 before shipping are exempt from duty/VAT. However anything over that will be liable to VAT, import duty and possibly handling charges from Royal Mail. Therefore if importing it's sometimes better to split your order into serveral packages under £18 to avoid tax/duty etc. sometimes paying shipping twice is preferable to paying the tax and duty 😀

When I have ordered from the US I have been hit by import duty and couriers handling fee each time, but I know some people that slip through.
You can find duty rates from the customs and excise website.
I can't remember what shipping was but if you contact PE they can tell you, it may even be stated if you go through an order to the shopping cart then cancel.

Hmmm, that requires navigating the Customs website, quite a challenge!
I've put an order through parts express, but the shipping just highlights red, and says they will contact me after ive put the whole order through wrt shipping.
I'm based near Reading, though I have another year in Uni, in Swansea.
