Hi all
so I just bought a JL Audio M400/4 amp, this is essentially identical to the XD400/4, just the marine version.
However it was DOA. I questioned the sellers who said it was working on removal, but had been stood for some time. I've got power to the +V & remote switch inputs, but the amp is dead and the status LED remains unlit. The amp itself is in excellent condition, looks like it's hardly been used.
Any pointers I can look at or things I can check?
Thanks!

If it was in fact used in a marine environment, corrosion would be my primary concern. Can you open it up and look for any white deposits on the board or terminals? If it's clean inside, you could have an issue with either the remote turn on circuit or the power supply control chip. In that case it would need to be repaired by a competent repairman (which you may or may not be).
Did you try it with a car battery?
Hi Perry
Yes, was just easier to get a photo set up like this (seller requested proof it was dead). I'm in conversation with the seller about how to proceed. My guess is getting it repaired will be expensive 🙁
I guess I just hoped there may have been a common / known issue with these amps presenting as dead, but having Googled a fair bit I can't find anything.
Some amps won't power up when remote and B+ are applied at the same time.
Again, some JL amps are VERY sensitive to the power source. Try the above on a battery if you haven't already.

Hi Perry
Thanks - yes I tried with just power to the B+ from a battery first, then applied power to the remote switch after a short while, nothing. I had already wondered if was matter of timing for the remote input.
