Delta 1010 schematics, output signals

Hi I'm currently thinking about a pc-based multichannel-multiway hometheater system. I want to go digital from the PC to the active speakers.
M-Audio Delta 1010 uses an external DA/AD box. Looking at the documentations of the chipset of this card it seems, that I2S may be used for communication between the card and the external box. Are there any schematics available? Is there at least a documentation of the signals on the external interface?

The plan would be to replace the external box with I2S->SPDIF converters or (don't know if this would work) simple line drivers for the I2S signals and use 24/96 DACs integrated in the speakers.
Using I2S would allow to run 24/96.

Anybody tried similar things? Anybody has more information on the Delta 1010?
 
Looks good. The 74AC245 drivers are nice, but I have to use cables of 10-20 meters. Therefore I will add additional LVDS drivers. The speakers will get the clock from the sound card, therefore I don't need bidirectional drivers.
This solution should also work with any other sound card where the I2S bus is accessible.
 
I don't think this will be a problem. Clock is less than 10MHz, therefore I don't expect sync problems between clock and data lines even on 20m line. Signaling won't be done with I2S signal pegels but with LVDS, therefore I expect a good signal quality. But I will check this with an oscilloscope.

If there are really sync problems between the 4 signals, I still could serialize it. There is a Maxim application note on using a parallel->LVDS converter for I2S transmission over a single twisted-pair link. But the idea behind the Maxim design is not to solve sync problems but to have less cabling - which is not my problem.

I will test it an post the results.
 
I played with I2S a few years ago with no good results for longer runs (over 50cm). No LVDS though. Others have been reporting similar results. 20m is a long way.

I have played around with the 1010 some, and have considered various ways of utilizing the I2S lines. I tend to agree with phofman though - trying to send I2S 20m is likely to be challenging. You are likely to get better success converting to spdif and running that over long distances. SPDIF runs fine at 24/96.
If you want to try LVDS, there was a thread here a few years back where someone did a multi-channel I2S over LVDS setup - this was to get DVD-Audio and SACD converted to PCM out of a universal player. You should be able to search for 'multichannel lvds' or something. I'm pretty sure he serialized things.
