Hi all, I wonder if anyone can advise on an intermittent problem. For a while now I have been having an intermittent problem with a Denon cd 1700. what seems to happen is when it gets to track 12/13 of a 14 track 74min cd it momentarily skips. I have cleaned the laser checked the platter/ spindle bearings, stripped and cleaned them and relubricated them.
In the service manual it gives you a clearance of 0.5mm which seems to be a clearance for the platter spindle but also adjusts the height of the platter. so what happens is if I set the height to the recommended 0.5mm / 020" in it wont read the disc. on strip it was rubbing the top bearing (bush) but reading the disc and skipping. so I have reset it again to .005"in which is 015"in outside the recommended, but reads the disc ok and does not appear to skip anymore.
Can anyone advise me if there is an optimum setting for the dimension from laser to disc as this all seems to be a bit confusing.
