Denon DCD-660 CD Player Not Reading Following Disc Tray Belt Change

Hi All,

I am currently attempting to fix my DenonDCD-660 cd player. The main problem was the disc tray was struggling to open. I replaced the belt associated with this, and this issue is fixed. However, now the CD is not turning or reading when the disc tray is closed. I have cleaned the laser, but to no avail. Any thoughts on why the CD is now not reading and how to go about fixing this? It was reading previously, so feel like a major fix shouldn't be required?

Try checking to see if the disc tray is fully inserted. When the disc tray is fully inserted, is there a laser beam emitted from the reading eye? If the tray is fully inserted but there is no laser beam emitted, it may be due to the disassembly process, the belt you reinstalled the disc tray was not properly installed, so the laser eye has not been fully inserted to close the contact there so that the laser beam can be emitted when the disc tray is fully inserted, helping your machine read the disc. Check that.

When the disc tray is fully inserted, I have seen the laser mechanism raises up briefly, then returns down again and no laser comes out of it. The belt itself seems to be working fine, so not sure what i've done that means the laser now doesn't rise up and engage properly, or how to fix it?

Thanks, certainly worth a try. Any tips on where to get appropriate sized belts from - the latest one I ordered was apparently the right size from Germany, cost quite a bit though, so would be good to find somewhere cheaper, especially if I might have to try out a few belts to find the right size

The lens of the eye has been raised. But there is no laser beam emitted. It means you have done something to affect the laser diode and it is dead. Now the only way is to buy a new laser reader of the same type to replace it so it will work.
