My Denon S-102 had stopped playing audio CDs a while back, but continued playing DVDs normally. I recently did a search on the web and found that a number of Denon CD/DVD players are subject to this behaviour.
Loading the latest firmware made no change, and neither did adjusting the CD pot as outlined on page 6 of this thread:

The original laser pickup installed in the S-102 a Sanyo SF-HD65, so I decided to replace it. I got a SF-HD65 on eBay for less than $10 dollars.
Replacing it was a piece of cake - firstly power down the S-102 with the tray open, remove the sides and top of the unit, and the top of the CD/DVD carrier (two small screws), and the mechanism is clearly exposed.
Handling the new unit must be done with extreme caution as it is sensitive to static. I used a proper earthing strap and wore no synthetic clothing. When the new pickup was installed, I removed the large solder blob beside the wiring connector- it is there to help protect the pickup from static during transit.
The whole job took about twenty minutes. The bad news was that nothing changed! The new pickup played DVDs perfectly, but not audio CDs.
With a bit more research I came across a similar thread in Spanish on another forum where the owner successfully replaced the pickup with a SF-HD62 pickup and the problem was fixed.
I picked one up on eBay, again for less than $10, and installed it. A slightly different board layout than the SF-HD65, but it works perfectly! My S-102 has been playing DVDs and CDs for the last few days perfectly - something I haven't had for a long time.
Sanyo also have another compatible laser pickup - the SF-HD850 which I haven't got around to trying, but it might be worth a try if you find yourself in similar situation.

I have a similar problem. DVDs are playing normally, but CDs are stuck at "LOADING". Already tried replacing laser pickup. Still the same issue. Any ideas?
That's exactly what was happening with my unit. Replacing the pickup with an identical one (SF-HD65) did not improve the situation, but when I used a SF-HD62 pickup it worked perfect! Worth a try - €10 on eBay.
