Hi everyone,
I've been snooping 'round the web, and found countless sites that describe ways to make a fixed projector screen. Some are painted on the wall, others are wooden frames, but all are FIXED.
What I'd like to do is a top-mounted screen, which can be rolled up when not in use. I'm looking at around 100 cm * 180 cm in 16:9 format.
One of my concerns is that the tube/rod/whatever on top will not be able to support the weight of the fabric without bending down on the middle... especially when it's rolled up and there's no cross strength in the fabric to distribute the load.
I'm new to this home cinema stuff, so any suggestions/links are very welcome.
Thanks,
Jennice

I've had no problems using a standard aluminium rollerblind mechanism fitted with commercial screen material.
Alternatively, you could try eBay, etc. for a tripod screen and modify it.

Hi dnsey,
Well, I've thought about that option (with the rollerblind), but in those widths, they don't come cheap either...
I found some wax-coated table-cloth (is that a use-able description in english
) which seems to do OK for the screen material... so I'm looking for the cheapest way to make a (reasonable solid) way to roll it up when not in use. (mind you.. I'm both on a budget, and have to consider the WAF. 😀 )
I've thought about rolling it up from below, and having the top part mounted. This way there would be some tension on the fabric, but there would not be any part that could bend down either...
However, somehow this sounds too simple - there must be something I've overlooked, isn't there !?
