hi friends,
first of all this is not a invention, its a modification.
As you know these tiny capsules are very good in performance and senstivity but when using them in a noisy enviroment it creates a lot of problem .since they are omnidirectional so they picup all the noise from surroundings easily.Tortoured by this problem, i searched on net for unidirectional electrect capsules details.I came to know that thease are available but at my place these are not available at all.So i decided to diy.I had taken a small drill bit i.e. .5 to .8 mm and made some holes in the wall & back of capsules ,avoiding the internal electronics to damage (this idea came from the photos available on net.) the result was amazing. Now i have a unidirectional electrect mic.
I have some observations from this experiments,
1.I got a unidirection capsules but senstivity is reduced.
2.I think that the directions for holes will make this capsules piciking pattern according to your own test.
do dear diyers do it youself (if it is usefull for you) and share the results.
cheears.
thanks

I am not a pro,i am just sharing what i had done and what i had found by this experiment, for the people who want to DIY with these capsules.Show us some before and after graphs, even not calibrated. If it where that simple...E
It won't be unidirectional (cardioid) but figure-of-eight at most.
Thats why i told that do it yourself and share the result.According to my thinking the hole patterns are deciding factors for its pickup pattern.

You make the holes on the Omni- Directional yes ?
You can not make Uni-directional in this way.
1: Omni- and Uni- types are different. Not only the holes on the PCB ,but also inner side are differents. The uni- type inner side have the damp.
2: You make the holes on the PCB directly , the types just can be changed to Bi-(Noise cancelling types). The sensitivity will be get down.
For more capsules please check the LXMIC. They have more capsules can be used to Studio and recorders .
