DIY UniVibe

Anybody try to clone an original Univibe? I got the chance to play a vintage one and it sounded ( . Y . ) but now I want one.

All the good clones out there are pretty pricey, so I was thinking of making my own but it looks like it might be out of my league.

I found a link: http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/univibe/vibeupdate.pdf

I was thinking of making a toner transfer pcb with the image in the link.

Am I wasting my time?

I also found this: http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/univibe/uvfrindx.htm

Hello nuryev,
I have not made any progress yet, I sometimes start projects and then get sidetracked. And thanks for the link, if I do build one I do plan on buying a PCB. How is yours coming along? I would like to hear of your results because I really like the sound of them.

hi bird,
You seem to be on the same page as I am. If I dont finish these projects my wife will probably divorce me as the diningroom table looks like a workshop. The univibe is pride of place right now.

Will send pics.

Forum Vibe update

Hi Bird
I completed the diy vibe project - well, almost..still fine tuning.

To qoute some who also heard a diy Vibe: 'It sounds like ( , )( , ) !!!!!😀

I had a problem with noisy powersupply but that will be fixed. I am now looking at preparing an enclosure and experimenting with the 'dial in' procedure to get the best output.

Have you built any other diy pedals yet!

Well you are ahead of me, I haven't even ordered a board yet:headbash:

Did you use a film container to enclose the LDR's?

I did a compression pedal with the vintage metal can CA3080 opamp that sounds great. I want to do a fuzz pedal butt have been using the same Tube Screamer for the past 10 years and can't seem to replace it because I love it so much.

For your possible interest.
I was looking for Voodoo Vibe schematics just this morning, took a while to find but eventually tracked links to schematics and apparantly a PCB here:
roger mayer voodoo vibe
The waveform generator chip (ICL8038) is hard to find. Yu may be able to use an EXAR XR-2206 instead with minimal mods.
Cheers,
Ian

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the link, I found the schematics and PCB on that site, now I want some beer and brats😉

Forum Vibe update

Hi guys,

Since my last post I have switched from using a printer powersupply to a 24v benchtop psu. The difference is audible to say the least.

Still twiddling knobs and tuning the vibe in, but I can't wait to connect to the Wah, Octavia and Fuzz!!!!

I would recommend the Forum Vibe, especially if you have built a few stomp boxes already and have some experience in troubleshooting. It is worth the time and effort.
