Double driver question

Short version:

I am looking for some information on the benefits and disadvantages of putting two 15” drivers in one box.

Longer version:

I am putting together a pair of speakers and need some input on the configuration for the woofers.

The mids are JBL 2446H with 120 X 40 deg bi-radial lens and will soon have Truextent Beryllium diaphragms. The tweeters are JBL 2405, two per channel.

Originally I had been planning to us a 15” woofer with either a 15 or 18” passive in a box somewhere around 140 liters.

In order to better understand how to design the woofer box and speakers in general I got “Loudspeakers” by Newell and Holland. A lot of good information there but it got me thinking that perhaps another configuration would perform better for me.

The book points out that the improved lower frequency response of the bass reflex/ported speaker comes at the expense of transient accuracy. This has been my impression when listening to sealed vs ported/passive speakers. The sealed speaker have more lower frequency presence whereas the ported/passive speaker is less precise in the lower frequencies.

I am looking specifically for the tradeoffs using two 15” drivers. I have run a search on DIY Audio and if this specific information is in the book I have not yet found it.

I have been considering the passive type speaker in an attempt to have a better sensitivity match to the mids and tweeters. It would seem that with two drivers in the same box the sound level would be increased but what do you give up to get it?

Thanks
