Hi All,
Had an accident, one of my Homage speaker fell to the floor, face down. Bass got compressed and has reduced movement and a scraping sound to it. What seem to even worse is that the tweeter magnet fell off and the coil has a slight damage to it as well as some ferro fluid could be seen.
Any hopes of repairing the bass unit? Tweeter is dead I think ....
Any one know where to find spare parts, any sitting on spare parts?
All input appreciated/Mike

Bad luck Mike, lovely looking speaker.
Have you tried getting in touch with the manufacturer?
Depending on how ambitious you're feeling a total driver change and active setup would be doable for such lovely things.

Dear Ewollowe,
Thanks for the reply and suggestions. Not sure if fitting new drivers would create the magic that Franco S meant, but active, never seen that before on this model.
Anyway I am on the search for replacement drivers, or another pair, this is how much I appreciate these speakers and with modern electronics and some other tricks these speakers deliver all the hifi parameters as new construction including what they are famous for, music communication./Mike

I hear what you're saying about keeping the speakers original etc but I think some would argue you could make better speakers with the tech available these days?
There would also be driver balancing to take into account? These are 20 year old speakers? What are the chances drivers replaced on one side will be within tolerance for the other? Lots of questions 🙂
New drivers, Mini dsp, 2 stereo amps, mic, lots of tinkering. You're biggest hurdle would be the bass reflex aspect but you could seal them and equalize with the mini dsp. Lots of options available to you.

There is a point in ewollowe's sugestion but it would be something for an experienced DIYer to take into consideration for it would be an almost completely new build.
If it were me, I'd repair the Guarneri to original specs and keep its character the way it was originally decided.
Tweeter looks like a Dynaudio dome, I'm not sure. Midbass I don't recognize.

Since you are in the EU, try to contact Ernst Schouten of Total Speaker Repair in NL. There are very few high-end loudspeakers, that have not been through his hands for repair the last 25 years, often at a mere fraction of the cost hi end manufacturers charge for replacements.

"Mid-bass driver used in Guarneri Homage is a 150mm high-resolution unit from Audio Technology (formerly Skanning) with short coil, long air gap and vented back. It is important to point out that the main driver was from Audio Technology, not from Scan Speak as mistakenly wrote Michael Fremer in Stereophile review of Guarneri Memento in August 2007.
Tweeter used in Guarneri Homage is famous 28mm Esotar - silk dome tweeter from Dynaudio with unique wood (walnut or maple) chamber on the back."

Thanks to you All,
Yes I want to keep things original. Also I am not experienced enough to diy this my self.
Boden, thanks for the pointer.
PeteMcK is right, the bass unit is what he says and the tweeter is supposed to be a Dynaudio D-28/2 unit with the maple half dome chamber but I am no expert.

What on earth is a high res driver, and to what specs does that translate other than a fairly flat on-axis SPL curve up to 5kHz?
Price your loudspeaker in the xxxxx $/€ -range and reviewers will do all the dirty work for you..
Sorry, could not resist that.

A high res driver has flat FR, a low res is the one with sawtooth FR. The reviewer got the name of the midbass wrong. Should have written Skaaning.
So our venerable VIFA WP17 (approx. 25€ ) one of the smoothest and flattest SPL drivers ever manufactured, falls into that category, and most Fostexes and Lowthers are low-res according to this -somewhat questionable- definition. But that is not how reviewers and hi end speakersystem building companies like to picture the situation. That is why I take issue with this hi-res terminology.
Lojzek, what you are describing is simply the difference between a good/ properly designed driver and a poor driver.
BTW: In general I agree for 99.8% with your posts!

Thanks Boden. I'm convinced we will all agree one day in the future when we find out the missing information on the subject. Until then, take care!
Hi All,
My hunt is on but the fact remain that these speakers are balanced as a pair so I will be looking at a new 2nd hand pair instead. Just to survive the hunting period I just bought a pair of Sonus Faber Electa Amator 2 for a modest sum, another great speaker. Thanks for all input/Mike
