ESB 7/06 Crossover Update

I have owned my Italian ESB 7/06 speakers since the mid eighties. I bought them after the great reviews in The Absolute Sound and they are still my favorite speakers. I recently came across the factory specs for the crossover and to my surprise I noticed that some caps are low grade electrolytic and all other caps are polyester caps. I want to replace them all with high grade polypropylene caps.

My problem is to get access to the crossover that's hidden far into the speaker and get it back in with proper connections (I can hardly reach it with my arm through the woofer opening let alone see it). It loos like the crossover was installed before the speaker was glued together.

Has anyone done this successfully? If so I would appreciate your advise.

Lojzek,

Here is a picture from Audio Visione, 1983. The crossover is mounted onto the inside panel at the back of the speaker at mid height. From the crossover cables are connected to the upper midrange chamber as well as down to the woofer. Underneath is a brace that makes it (it looks like) impossible to slide it down to the woofer opening. The second picture shows the width of the crosssover panel.

Hi tkollen,

I see. So, if it's not possible to detach the XO board from the
back panel and pull it out through the lower brace, then you
have the option to saw the whole filter board with the back
panel and figure out later how you will fabricate a new one
modified to be easy accessible.

You mentioned having factory specs for the XO filter. Does
that mean you have the filter schematic?
