I have a question about the crossovers in some speakers I recently got.

The story. I'm working with a buddy on a bass amp project. That is a long post on its own. In the process I decided I want to get my high school bass guitar out and re-learn it. And for that I need my own equipment when I give his back. The project I'm working on is a custom SVT. I have his amps and one of his spare speaker cabinets. So I was about to commission a mutual friend to make the same speaker cabinet he made for my buddy: TL-606 cabinet with FaitalPro 15PR400. This friend pointed me to a craigslist post, and I ended up with a screaming deal on 2 TL-606's with EV 15B's and 2 bonus cabinets with EV 15B's, Renkus-Heinz SSD-1800-8 compression drivers (plus one spare), McCauley Horns, and McCauley Crossovers. One has a 3212 crossover, the other has a 3412. I got all 4 boxes for about 60% of the one box I originally asked about. Deal of the year.

First things first, I test the TL-606's in the bass rig. Check. Sounds great. I could shake my house down with these monsters.

Next up, test the PA cabinets. I cleaned up around my workbench in the basement. These will be the new speakers for my workshop, and the 2nd set of test speakers for amp building after an amp is run on my cheap sacrificial small speakers.

One channel fires up, and I play with the L-Pad to dial it in by ear to "close enough". Check. Dialing it in with measurement software comes later.

Fire up other speaker, sounds horrible. Something is not right. I opened up the crossover and discover the magic smoke was released during an inductor BBQ. Oops! I'm going to swap drivers around and test to see if the drivers on the cooked side are still good.

My question:

Does anyone have info on McCauley 3212 or 3412 crossovers?

I want to rebuild the bad crossover. I don't have an LCR meter. I don't know the inductor values. What I know is I have a good sized 8-Ohm L-Pad, 9uF and 15.5uF caps on both crossovers. The 2 inductor values are unknown.

The plot thickens. Good side uses a RK compression driver. Bad side had a 16 ohm anchor compression driver. I’ll fit the spare RK.

Good eye!

That is Tony's old SVT head. My buddy bought it a while back. He wants me to build something that mimics his Carvin guitar head preamp out into SVT channel 1.

I just picked up an SVT2-PRO head that has the gain, EQ, etc that the old SVT does not. I need my buddy to test drive the SVT2-PRO vs Carvin / Black line SVT combo with his settings.

If you know who Erba is - are you a fan of Fave Value, 9 Shocks Terror, FYPM, or another one of his projects?

The 7" is the fancy version of their demo tape which I still have. Acme didn't play that many shows and I lived at the other end of the country and was too young a kid to travel that far. They created a local sound and members went on to play in other bands like Systral and Mörser which I both saw a bunch of times. Mörser's first 12", the Two Hours To Doom was kind of another landmark in that field.

Rebuilt crossover. 1200hz butterworth with l-pad. Works like a charm.

Now I have 2 good workshop speakers that double as secondary test speakers after testing an amp on my small sacrificial cheapos

Backup diy first watt aleph j mini stereo will be the amp of the day.

Thanks for the tip on Mörser!!!
