EZ81 / 6CA4 Rectifier Tube advice

Hi,
I am looking to use an EZ81 rectifier tube in a preamp buffer project driving a 12AU7 or 6N1P- EV (yet to decide) and have come across NOS Mullard, Brimar, and Tungsram EZ81s for similar cost or new production JJ . Are there certain makes worth aiming for?

How critical to the overall performance and sound does the rectifier tube make and
how important is the make or NOS v New production?

Any views, experience or advice greatly appreciated

Thanks

For a simple pre-amp / buffer you could also use an EZ80.

If they really are the same price, NOS vs New production, go for NOS. Just get a known make rather than a 'branded' one.

Not sure you will get a single black or white answer to how different they sound or if they have a sound...

it is that I also thought before making the opposite observation and I am not the only one to think it.
I do not have experience on a preamp or a buffer, but on all my tube amps with rectifier tube yes.
I have read and read many things about this around the world
and I have not found a "technical" statement that proves either, just the ears and the habit of the same cd on the same speakers for many hours but I will not relay the debate here, the last time this is badly finished ...

JMO, if the vacuum rectifier is already on hand, using it in a preamp project makes sense. OTOH, if a purchase is needed, high PIV Schottky diodes, which are every bit as quiet as vacuum rectifiers, are the way to go. The Schottkys save money, occupy less space, and don't consume heater power.
