Hi,
I have a Polk Audio PSW 350. Came home one day and it was making a humming noise. I turned it off pulled the plug and tried again and it may a low noise and then went silent. I have patched the speaker directly into my amp and it sounds fine. I have also patched the pre out jack for the sub woofer on my amp into a headset and was able to hear good audio. This seems to me to indicate that the problem has to be in the speaker amp. It all looks normal except on corner of a circuit board that is a little burnt under four resistors. Is there anything a novice can do to troubleshoot the circuit board? This site on E-Bay Polk PSW350 Powered Subwoofer Amplifier Plate Repair Service | eBay will rebuild it for $110. They've got an excellent reviews.
I've heard through some sites that the Polk Audio powered sub-woofers aren't that great. Do you think I might be throwing money into a pit? Any suggestions on what else I might be a better choice?
THANKS!!!

Yeah, if you want to buy a new car to Mr. Polk, NPI.
From what I see you have a 10" sub from specifications.

If the cost of the repair of that sealy, no-warranty sub is $110 then you are set for a trap.
This new 12" powered sub from Parts Express here it's only $109.00
More, subs and amps.

I haven't talked to Polk yet. The speaker was purchased 10 years ago so there is no warranty. I just sent them an e-mail and should hear from them in one business day according to the web site.
I'm really leaning toward a replacement due to its age.
