Hi,
I'm after some advice, I think the tweeter in my Fostex PM-1s has blown (Im completely new to these speakers and monitors in general but Im guessing thats the problem from the muddy, undefined sound from one speaker in the pair)
Ive been looking all over the internet for a replacement tweeter but can't find much info on what would be suitable replacements. There is no info about what the stock tweeters are - I opened them up and found the number "358626" and "4H32W" on them but they don't seem to be a product number etc. These are 1-inch Fostex UFLC soft-dome tweeters... that is all I know.
Any advice would be awesome!
Thank you very much.
Tommy

Update: Just had a quick test of the problem speaker again, there is still some output from the tweeter, I can definitely hear things in a mix coming through from it (e.g. cymbals, top end vocals etc) but it is VERY low volume in comparison to the other speaker, I can only really hear it with the gain on the speaker turned up. Are there any test I can try to see if there is a chance is this is fixable without replacing the tweeter?
Hi,
Swap the tweeters between speakers and see what happens.
If the problem moves its the tweeter, if it doesn't its internal.
rgds, sreten.

Thanks,
its definitely the tweeter that is faulty. I'm guessing there is no way of "repairing" a tweeter if it is damaged. As these are my first set of monitors and will be used for mixing, can anyone recommend a suitable replacement? I got these speakers quite cheap so I don't mind paying for quality, also would it be advisable to buy a pair of tweeters so the speakers match?

Hi,
Contact Fostex through a shop that sells their monitors.
Spare parts should be part and parcel of buying monitors.
Otherwise your looking at a pair of tweeters and some guessing.

Fractured leads on tweeters can sometimes be repaired,
fried voicecoils is terminal. Disassembly of the tweeter
is the only way to find the root cause of failure.

I did notice those, just unsure about what the correct ohms for this speaker is. I know the mk2 is rated overall at 8 ohms, so would guess that applies.
I have emailed a distributor, unfortunately because the mk2s are discontinued and the mk1s don't even appear on Fostex's archive Im not entirely confident that they'll have parts for this model. Hopefully they'll get back to me soon.
Thanks for your help!

One more question, as a pair of Bi-amped speakers rated at 8 ohms overall Im presuming the amps/speakers are wired in parallel and each speaker is therefore 8 ohms and not 2 x 4 ohms?
