The B&G drivers aren't ribbons, they're what Wharfedale used to call 'isodynamic' drive units. Plastic film with a flat 'voice coil' attached. Magnepan use the same principle. I suppose the Founteks that use a composite plastic/ metal foil diaphram could be considered a kind of hybrid between the B&Gs and a true ribbon. The B&G Neo 10 apparently has a kind of corrugated surround element to its diaphram to allow greater excursion, an obvious limitation for a relatively short end-clamped ribbon.

Please

Anybody can give me is honest opinion... i'm building myself a actives bookshelves and i want the best at good price..

After much research, I think I would go with the NeoX2 or the RAAL 70-10D... but never heard both...

I'm hesitating on the neoX2 because there is just NO information on the web mostly... Can't believe that these days company launch a new line of products and doesn't give any info about them...

Anybody measured them?? can you send me the measurements graphs?
What would you choose... is the raal really the **** over others ribbons or other are competing at a most reasonable price... like Hi-vi planar, css planar, fountek neox, B&G etc...

if i pay 400$ more for the raal over the Neox ... I expect to see a difference.. of course I could always buy both and test but i'm sure most of you have more equipements and a room to do it.. also $$

thx for helping
peace
Alex

Hello Alex! what kind of measuring do you need? isn't it enough for make a choose into Fountek web site?
I used any type of ribbons and sure - all of them is good things, but you have match it to each loudspeaker progect and for person - to each his own
concerning measuring - I prefare consider about official ones only. not from someones and somewhere

I have experience with both Fountek and RAAL .
I have prolonged experience using two cheapest Founteks as supertweets , and playing with them even lower . In fact , I'm using them in present time .

They're extremely good value for money , but RAAL units are simply in higher league , both sound wise and technically .

For my needs - supertweets crossed at 16-20K/6db electrically - I think that there is no difference between RAAL and Fountek , but difference is in lower registers

I see, but cheapest - do you mean CD1.0?
my favorite is CD3.5H, but now I'm impressed of NeoX2 and will ask Mr. Max Ding to equip it horn - like cd3.5H 🙂
about frequency range - I 'm always use 2.5-3.2kHz for Fountek ribbons. usuale 3order crossover, sometime 2order.
for advanced loudspeaker I used CD2 before, but will use NeoX2.0 since its appeared

I would love to try AMT in my speaker. Currently playing with Beyma T2030 crossed at 8 kHz first order. From your experience with Fountek and RAAL, do you thing there will be a quality difference in this application? as extension to a fullrange driver up from a rather high frequency?

I have had the RAAL 150-15D for a while. Bought them because of the rave reviews but found my ESS AMT's better overall specially in the lower register. Also liked my Decca London ribbon horns more, although these are coloured a bit. The 150-15D was very good when used from 10kHz on up. In this region they better the AMT's beneath that they are too sterile for my taste. Some people might call that uncoloured. It's not that, it's the inability to portrait colours in the lower register specially with voices.

Nope, but I do disagree almost entirely with Sjef's characterisation of the RAALs! I have listened to Fountek and Aurum Cantus ribbons and in my system (and own them), for my tastes/ prejudices, the RAALs are significantly better. Largish AMTs will certainly go lower than the RAALs, that I do agree with. Bear in mind that opinions on drive units- including mine- will depend heavily on implementation, as well as tastes and expectations of the listener.
